For six years now, Disney+ streaming service has been releasing numerous seasons of both animated and live-action television shows. In 2024 alone, we witnessed the debut of both The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, while 2023 brought us a third season of The Mandalorian, the first season of Ahsoka, and a fresh third season is in store for 2023. With a second season of Ahsoka on the horizon, speculation about potential guest stars has started to circulate.
According to a recent report from Kristian Harloff on Star Wars News Net, it’s speculated that Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by Ewan McGregor, might make an appearance in the second season of Ahsoka. The series is said to feature flashback scenes set during the same time as The Clone Wars animated series, with Ariana Greenblatt reprising her role as a younger Ahsoka Tano and joining McGregor in these sequences. Previously, Hayden Christensen also returned for flashbacks as young Anakin Skywalker, which lends some credibility to these rumors.
Ewan McGregor recently portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in the title series, focusing on a specific phase of the character’s life between the incidents depicted in Star Wars Episodes III and IV. Fans have eagerly anticipated a live-action representation of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi during their Clone War era, complete with armor. However, even the Kenobi series merely presented a glimpse into events preceding Star Wars Episode II.
Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi Still Has A Chance to Appear in Other ‘Star Wars’ Stories
Given rumors that the second season of Ahsoka might be its final run, this could be the last opportunity for McGregor to revive his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a live-action setting. In an interview with Variety in September 2024, the actor expressed his hope, “I truly hope we get another chance. The story arc between where the series left off and when Alec Guinness appears with Luke Skywalker leaves room for a few more tales to be told.
In the upcoming series “Ahsoka,” as the actor is approaching a similar age to the character from “A New Hope,” any potential flashback scenes would depict a younger Obi-Wan, allowing the actor to reprise his acclaimed performance from the prequel trilogy. However, it remains uncertain where else McGregor might appear in Lucasfilm projects currently being developed within the broader Star Wars timeline.
Between the second season of “Ahsoka” and the forthcoming “The Mandalorian and Grogu” movie, Dave Filoni has a busy schedule ahead. The story that the second season might unfold, let’s hope it offers an opportunity for Filoni to seamlessly introduce Obi-Wan Kenobi. Furthermore, although the “Ahsoka” series may conclude with its second season, there’s always potential for characters like Obi-Wan and Ahsoka to appear in other connected series or films.
