Elon Musk could be the new owner of TikTok’s US operations as per Bloomberg News.
According to reports from CNBC, there’s a possibility that the Chinese government might sell TikTok’s U.S. operations to Elon Musk, allowing the popular app to keep running in the United States. However, it’s important to note that this is just one of several options being considered and no decisions have been made yet. Furthermore, it’s unknown whether ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, is aware of these potential government plans. High-ranking Chinese officials are reportedly still in discussions on the matter and may bring it up with President-elect Donald Trump.
A representative from TikTok stated to CNBC that it’s inappropriate for them to offer opinions on works of pure imagination. As for the matter involving X, they have yet to provide a response when asked for one.
The fate of TikTok in the US remains uncertain as the court decision is pending, but the app will shut down on January 19 if the Supreme Court does not intervene. This ban was enacted after President Biden signed a law in April 2024, with strong support from both parties in Congress. The government argues that China’s control of TikTok through ByteDance poses a significant national security risk. While authorities claim they can force ByteDance to hand over user data, TikTok insists that the administration has no proof China has ever attempted to access this information.
