CD Projekt Red has been diligently reviving ‘Cyberpunk’ over the past few years. Following their successful work on ‘Phantom Liberty’, the team is now eager to revisit a trusted, established series: ‘The Witcher’.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve only managed to gather fragments of information about The Witcher IV so far. However, what intrigues me is the shift in focus, with Ciri stepping into the limelight as the new protagonist. What really catches my attention though, is the presence of many seasoned developers involved in its creation.
Veteran Witcher Devs on Witcher IV
According to CDPR’s co-CEO Michal Nowakowski, approximately 100 team members who worked on the game “The Witcher III: Wild Hunt” are now contributing to the development of “The Witcher 4.” Additionally, some developers have been part of the Witcher series since the very first game.
Concerned about the introduction of a new protagonist instead of Geralt of Rivia, some followers of the franchise initially felt uneasy, fearing a loss of its enchantment. However, with the knowledge that many of the developers have been working together for years, fans can feel confident that they are in capable and familiar hands.
What’s New with Ciri
Despite being rooted in the legacy of earlier game titles, enthusiasts are optimistic that The Witcher IV will introduce fresh elements to the series. With Ciri stepping into the limelight as the main character, there’s ample room to delve deeper into her abilities; given she was not only mentored by Geralt but also by Yennefer. It’s plausible that Ciri possesses a combination of skills from both a seasoned Witcher and sorceress, making for an intriguing gameplay experience.
Although no specific gameplay details have been unveiled yet, the announcement hinted at Ciri acquiring new abilities. Notably, her eyes change color from Geralt following a potion consumption. Additionally, she was shown wielding a chain gauntlet reminiscent of Kratos’ Blades of Chaos. This gauntlet serves to capture enemies, and Ciri can also use it to channel magic, enhancing the effects on anything caught within the chains.
A New Trilogy
It’s been confirmed that “The Witcher IV” is anticipated to launch a fresh trilogy within the series, focusing on Ciri as the main character. While the specific direction of her tale remains uncertain for now, this opens up opportunities for the game creators to explore more imaginative paths in her adventure.
Exploring new territories as Geralt’s adventures draw from various folk tales, it’s intriguing to speculate where Ciri’s journey will lead us this time around. Given that Geralt has been portrayed in a sensual manner within previous games, it remains to be seen if CDPR will follow suit and incorporate Ciri’s romantic aspects into the gameplay experience of The Witcher IV. Known for their bold approach with mature themes across their titles, such elements should not come as a surprise in the upcoming installment.
What are the odds that she’s going to be bi?
No release date has been set for The Witcher IV, but fans hope the game will be available by 2026.
