Essentially, the film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine is a 127-minute extravaganza filled with fan service, Easter eggs, and beloved superheroes making a grand comeback. Despite all this excitement, some viewers were disheartened as the movie overlooked a significant aspect for most of its runtime. In the film, Hugh Jackman reprised his role as Wolverine, and not only did he return, but he also donned his cherished yellow suit from the comics. Interestingly, during the climactic battle against the Deadpool Corps in the final fight scene, Logan even sported his iconic yellow mask. However, some fans expressed a desire for him to wear it more frequently throughout the movie.
In this situation, VFX artist TaranStingVFX1 steps in with a creative idea. He felt that Wolverine should have worn his yellow mask during an earlier fight and decided to bring that vision to life. In the initial battle between Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine inside The Void, their fight was filled with CGI and had minimal repercussions due to their super healing abilities. TaranStingVFX1 edited this scene to include Wolverine’s mask, and it turned out even better than the original version! You can watch the modified clip below.
Alongside displaying the revamped scene, Taran Singh additionally shared a quick behind-the-scenes glimpse into the VFX process in his post. He presented the original film, followed by his updated modeling work overlapped, and lastly, the seamlessly integrated final outcome. Instead of merely utilizing the film’s closing fold over mask, Taran created a separate, more aesthetically pleasing mask for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine – one that stands out compared to the initial version.
Can ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Win an Oscar This Year?
In 2024, the film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine came in second only to Inside Out 2 in terms of box office earnings. This movie shattered several records, such as becoming the highest grossing R-rated film ever made, surpassing the $1 billion mark and Todd Phillips’ Joker, which had previously held the top spot. With hopes of adding more achievements to its impressive resume, Deadpool and Wolverine are aiming for an Oscar win this awards season.
In anticipation of the 97th Academy Awards, the duo of Deadpool and Wolverine has launched its “For Your Consideration” campaign. Although superhero films (and genre movies in general) are typically overlooked in the main categories, Ryan Reynolds is taking a gamble, aiming to secure a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination for Deadpool and Wolverine. The actor expressed his optimism about the film’s potential recognition, stating, “One factor working against it [in the awards arena] is that many view it as a comedy. That’s understandable, but the movie carries an undercurrent of emotion and warmth.
Alongside its superhero and comedy themes potentially working against it, the film Deadpool & Wolverine may encounter stiff competition in those genres. The movies Conclave, A Complete Unknown, Wicked, Emilia Perez, and Nickel Boys are anticipated to be strong contenders for awards in that category. Moreover, Sing Sing, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, and The Wild Robot could also receive nominations. Ultimately, Deadpool & Wolverine may find it challenging not only to secure a nomination but also to win the award, given the strong competition they will face.
