As a devoted follower of the “Twisted Childhood Universe” project, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve been given a peek into what’s next, or as we call it, “Phase 2”. Particularly intriguing is the reimagining of “Alice in Wonderland”, set in the dark and sinister world filled with lethal bears and inhabitants from Neverland who abduct children. For those who prefer to stay on the surface of things…or rather, far away from the rabbit hole and other grim locales…I suggest you look elsewhere now.
The Twisted Childhood Universe initially started as a money-making venture capitalizing on Winnie the Pooh becoming public domain in 2022. As we stand three years later, another installment of this franchise is about to debut, resembling its own Marvel Cinematic Universe but with a significantly smaller budget and questionable portrayals of beloved characters from classic children’s literature.
In addition to the known characters like Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger who will be joined by Bambi, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan, another project that’s becoming clearer is a more mature adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice. As explained by producer Scott Jeffrey to ScreenRant, this new version seems to be leaning towards a more revealing approach.
Moving forward, we have Phase 2 lined up, some parts of which we’ve already revealed. Among them is the third installment of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, as well as a standalone film focused on Tigger due to his popularity. In the near future, I expect to direct Alice the Mad. At present, I’m delving into an intriguing concept where the story unfolds at an escort agency called the White Rabbit. Alice, who is an escort or sex worker, becomes fixated on by the Mad Hatter. The film draws inspiration from Opera, Maniac featuring Elijah Wood, and possibly MaXXXine as well. I’m eagerly anticipating this project.
The Madness of the Poohniverse Just Won’t End
A significant number of individuals tend to steer clear of violent and gruesome slasher films, especially during their busy periods. The recent wave of movies circulating, which incorporates standalone productions showcasing brutal versions of characters like Steamboat Willie (Mickey Mouse) and Popeye, might not appeal to everyone. However, the negative reception towards the release of “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” didn’t halt Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s ambitious plans for sequels, spin-offs, and even an “Avengers-style” crossover film.
2021 promises an exciting lineup for film buffs like myself, with a variety of intriguing titles hitting the big screen. Kicking things off this week is “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare“, followed by “Pinocchio Unstrung” and “Bambi: The Reckoning” later in the year. Notably, Jeffrey pointed out that we can also anticipate the release of “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3” and a new Tigger movie, with more entries in the pipeline, all currently under production.
It appears that the Poohniverse, a seemingly unexpected franchise, is gaining widespread recognition whether people want it or not. With relatively small budgets for these films – Blood and Honey was made for $100,000, its sequel cost $500,000, while Neverland Nightmare has a budget of approximately $300,000 – they have proven to be profitable ventures at the box office. As long as the franchise stays true to itself, that success is likely to increase as more movies are added to the list.
