‘Den of Thieves 3’ Has Already Been Ideated by Christian Gudegast

The dynamic duo, Gerard Butler and director Christian Gudegast, have proven to be quite formidable in the realm of action films. They’ve joined forces on multiple productions, with standout collaborations including “London Has Fallen,” “Plane,” and “Den of Thieves” from 2018. The latest installment in their heist series, titled “Den of Thieves: Pantera,” has just been released, potentially setting the stage for a full-fledged franchise centered around characters Big Nick (played by Butler) and a cunning thief, Donnie (portrayed by O’Shea Jackson Jr.). In a recent interview with MovieWeb about the action-packed sequel, Gudegast shared that he had an early inkling that their partnership would be successful and that they would continue to work together on future projects.

From the outset, it was evident that we shared a connection. He exuded a manly charm, was quite imposing, and our rapport blossomed instantly. His interest in the kind of material I was creating drew us closer, and by the time we collaborated on “Den of Thieves,” we had already worked together on a couple of projects. Along the way, we developed several concepts that unfortunately didn’t come to fruition, but some did. Producer Tucker Tooley had also previously collaborated with him. As it turns out, we all work harmoniously together, and we eagerly anticipate continuing our fruitful partnership.

Exciting news straight from me: There’s a high likelihood that you’ll get to see a third installment of “Den of Thieves”! In fact, Tooley shared with us an intriguing tidbit: “If this one performs well, we can assure you we’ll be making another one. And we already have a clear vision for it.” Just like they expanded the series’ horizons for “Den of Thieves 2”, expect them to set this next film in another captivating location!

Sequel’s Unlikely Partnership Opens the Door for New Franchise Possibilities

7 years ago, Den of Thieves captivated us with its detailed cat-and-mouse tale about a police officer chasing down cunning crooks who were robbing the Federal Reserve in Los Angeles. The follow-up continues directly from where the first movie concluded. In this installment, Big Nick ventures to Europe to locate Donnie, who’s entangled with another criminal network. What makes things interesting is that they must work together to counter more menacing adversaries.

The dynamic between these two characters introduces a fresh element to the storyline, making us eager to see how movie creators develop the saga and this duo further in “Den of Thieves 3.” It’s highly likely that fans won’t have to endure another long wait for the next sequel as Butler stated during an interview with Screenrant.

I will not wait anymore, and I won’t do that to other people anymore. I’m sorry.

O’Shea Jackson Jr. is equally excited to carry on the “Den of Thieves” series, but he’s willing to wait as long as necessary to make sure that “Den of Thieves 3” maintains its quality and isn’t just a money-grab. As he explained to Variety, “I have such a close bond with this team. I want to do more films, but we can’t compromise the amazing thing we’ve created. It took six or seven years to get this one done. I hope the next one won’t take that long, but in our hearts, we won’t make it if it’s not right and if it doesn’t recapture the magic that made audiences love the series from the start.

Essentially, Butler and Jackson make a fantastic screen pairing, and under Christian Gudegast’s direction, we’re eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for this series. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, produced by Lionsgate, hit theaters on January 10th.
