Vincent D’Onofrio Promises a Mind-Blowing Villain Transformation in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’!

Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Wilson Fisk significantly enhanced the character into one of Marvel’s most formidable television villains during his time on ‘Daredevil’. Now, he returns to the role in the MCU for ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ (premiering March 4 on Disney+). The actor hints that Fisk’s storyline in this series is even more grandiose and unorthodox than before. Known as Kingpin, Fisk was a cunning criminal mastermind in the initial ‘Daredevil’ series, where Charlie Cox played Matt Murdock. However, in ‘Born Again’, Fisk sets his sights on an ambitious new aspiration: running for mayor of New York City.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox hinted that fans should brace for surprises when they watch “Daredevil: Born Again” this March. D’Onofrio explained, “Our show is usually a prelude to something even more extraordinary.” He added, “For Fisk, this journey represents a path towards greater control.” At the end of 2024’s “Echo”, we got a glimpse of Fisk’s rising power in New York City’s political system, and Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox) made a brief appearance as well.

The latest teaser for “Daredevil: Born Again” starts off with a high-tension interaction between Fisk and Matt Murdock, happening in a diner during a deep, heated discussion. Kevin Feige cautioned, “It’s crucial to handle the circumstances carefully when bringing these two characters together,” adding, “because their encounter should feel like an irresistible force colliding with an unyielding object.” With three seasons filled with animosity between them, Feige emphasized that the scenes involving Fisk and Murdock needed meticulous planning by the writers. He elaborated:

*The newest trailer for “Daredevil: Born Again” commences with a tense scene between Fisk and Matt Murdock, taking place in a diner during an intense conversation.* “It’s essential to approach the situation thoughtfully when putting these two characters together,” Feige advised, continuing, “as their encounter should evoke the feeling of an unstoppable force colliding with an immovable object.” With three seasons of animosity between them, Feige stressed that the scenes involving Fisk and Murdock required careful consideration from the writing team. He clarified:

In a later episode of the season, there was originally a discussion planned, and I raised my concern that if the story were told, we could discuss it and move on without much consequence at that point. I suggested this might lessen the importance or tension (the stakes). However, they creatively found an interesting solution to avoid us having that conversation in the final version.

Karen and Foggy Are the “Heartbeat” of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

The latest trailer offers fans a more detailed glimpse at Matt Murdock’s combat allies, Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, portrayed by Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson. In an interview, Cox elaborated on why Karen and Foggy are crucial to the show. “I view Karen and Foggy as the pulse of Daredevil,” he said. “Their absence would render Matt’s actions devoid of emotional resonance. The empathy and fragility they infused into their characters enables me, as Matt, to explore the depths of darkness.

On March 4, 2025, Daredevil: Born Again debuts on Disney+. Joining the action is Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the complex character The Punisher, along with Wilson Bethel returning as the menacing Bullseye. Matt Murdock will face a new adversary in Muse, a brutal serial killer who uses his victims’ remains to create macabre artworks. The identity of the actor playing Muse has yet to be revealed.
