Before Donald Trump has officially taken office, he’s already making significant strides aimed at preserving Hollywood. However, it’s important to note that the movie industry may not necessarily require saving. Yet, nothing seems capable of dissuading the president-elect from incorporating his acting peers into his incoming U.S. administration. On Thursday, Trump announced the appointment of Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, and Jon Voight as “Special Ambassadors,” with the goal of saving Hollywood. Is this actually happening, or is it reminiscent of a poorly-executed direct-to-video film featuring Gibson?
Trump posted on Truth Social to reveal an exciting initiative (note the irony), revealing that Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone will serve as his “four horsemen” in a struggle to revitalize Hollywood. According to him, this endeavor aims to make it “BACK—LARGER, MORE IMPACTFUL, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”. It’s uncertain what specific actions are involved, but the president-elect appears quite eager for this project. His statement:
I am thrilled to share the news: Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone have been appointed as Special Ambassadors for a challenging yet illustrious location – Hollywood, California. Their mission is to act as my emissaries, working tirelessly to rejuvenate Hollywood, which has experienced significant business loss to foreign countries over the past four years. I trust their insights and expertise to bring about a transformation that will make Hollywood more vibrant, successful, and robust than ever before! These esteemed individuals will serve as my guides, helping me to achieve our shared goals. Just as America entered its Golden Age, so too shall Hollywood!
Initially, it seems puzzling that Trump claims foreign countries have dominated Hollywood’s business over the years, given its status as the world’s largest movie industry. Although profits dipped significantly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, movies have since regained their footing financially, with the 2024 season being particularly lucrative for studios. The concerning aspect is that Trump indicates he might implement suggestions from longtime actors like Gibson, whose numerous contentious views could potentially impact the nation in some way.
None of This Is Shocking, To Be Honest
For quite some time, the previously mentioned actors have been close to Donald Trump. Following his victorious 2016 campaign, Trump has received backing from Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Jon Voight, and several other actors. Prior to the 2024 election, Gibson openly declared that he would be voting for the future president-elect rather than Vice President Kamala Harris. More recently, Stallone compared Trump to George Washington, the initial U.S. President, and his character Rocky Balboa (whom he describes as a “chosen one,” similar to Jesus Christ).
Let me add this thought, and I truly mean it. When George Washington fought for his nation, he couldn’t foresee the impact he would have on the world. Imagine, without him, what the world might be like today. Interestingly enough, we have another ‘George Washington.’ Congratulations!
With Trump set to move back into the White House next week, it’s hardly surprising that some of his most devoted supporters are stepping into roles within his administration – just as happened in 2016 and seems likely for 2025 too. The designation of Stallone, Gibson, and Voight as Special Ambassadors to Hollywood might not carry the weight they hope it will, given that many of them aren’t particularly tied up with movie projects at this time. After all, they were chosen for specific reasons.
