The second installment of “Castlevania: Nocturne” has arrived, and this show has garnered fantastic feedback as it makes its triumphant comeback. Originating from the popular video game series by Konami, Netflix’s animated “Castlevania” initially premiered in 2017. After four seasons, the original show concluded in 2021.

In a nod to the past but with a fresh twist, “Castlevania: Nocturne,” the initial spin-off series, debuted on Netflix in 2023, nearly 300 years after the original timeline. Each season of “Castlevania” and the inaugural season of “Nocturne” have garnered widespread acclaim from both fans and critics, earning it a reputation as one of the best video game adaptations ever made. As the shadows lift, Season 2 of “Nocturne” has emerged from its crypt, and almost every critic concurs that the new season continues to bolster the show’s unofficial claim to greatness.

In Rotten Tomatoes, Season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne has a perfect score of 100%. The storyline resumes where Richter Belmont, Maria Renard, Annette, and transformed Eduard are saved from the clutches of Night Creatures by Alucard. This season delves further into the Vampire Messiah’s grand scheme to conquer the world as Alucard, Dracula’s half-human son, joins forces with the latest Belmont clan members and some fresh allies in an attempt to thwart their evil plans.

Critic David Opie from Total Film showered praise on the show, stating that “Castlevania: Nocturne continues to be exhilarating in its second season, offering fight sequences that are uniquely inventive and beyond what live-action cinema typically achieves.” However, he also mentioned that the original Castlevania series is still considered superior by many fans.

Jonathan Wilson from Ready Steady Cut shares a similar perspective, initially suggesting that “Castlevania: Nocturne” Season 1 shouldn’t have succeeded as a spin-off, given its challenges. However, he was amazed to find that Season 2 managed to replicate the same enchantment, if not more. Pramit Chattejee from Digital Mafia Talkies echoed this sentiment, awarding the new season a perfect score of 5/5 and expressing his admiration in his review.

This production boasts an incredible artwork, exceptional sound design, stunning animations during action scenes, superb editing, and captivating music – it’s all genuinely awe-inspiring. From its very opening, it swings boldly and maintains that intensity right up until the final moment.

‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Remains One of Netflix’s Best Animated Shows

Previously, the classic series “Castlevania” and its sequel “Castlevania: Nocturne” have ascended to the esteemed rank of “Top-tier Animated Shows on Netflix Throughout History“, joining other acclaimed titles such as “Arcane”, “Blue Eyed Samurai”, “Dandadan”, and “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”. Critics across the board endorse this status, with some going so far as to describe the second season of “Nocturne” as “flawless“. According to Kate Sanchez from But Why Tho?, it was even labeled as such.

Every year since 2017, the Castlevania series has continued to develop and grow more stunning… In essence, the storytelling in Castlevania Nocturne Season 2 is flawlessly excellent.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about diving into the eight episodes of Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 that are now streaming on Netflix! Although it’s only been available for a short while (at the time of this writing), fans are already binge-watching the new season and craving more. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any official announcement about a third season yet. However, given the overwhelmingly positive critical response so far, I have a strong feeling that the future of Castlevania: Nocturne is looking very promising at the moment!
