David Krumholtz, fresh from his role in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, “Oppenheimer,” and the British actress Emily Beecham have signed on to star in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” a space-exploring production directed by Craig Gillespie for Warner Bros. Discovery’s division, DC Studios.
This week, filming commenced in Leavesden, UK – DC’s main production site – for a project that draws inspiration from the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book mini-series. In this production, Milly Alcock from ‘House of the Dragon’ portrays Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin.
The shooting of a new project based on a specific comic series began in Leavesden, UK (DC’s main studio). Milly Alcock, who stars in ‘House of the Dragon’, plays Kara Zor-El – Superman’s relative – in this production.
There’s some uncertainty about how closely Ana Nogueira’s script adheres to the original comic, which deviated from typical good versus evil themes and instead focused on a cosmic exploration of character, encompassing various worlds and alien societies. The 2021 story, nominated for an Eisner Award, is narrated from the viewpoint of a young extraterrestrial girl named Ruthye, who seeks Supergirl’s help in her quest for vengeance against Krem of the Yellow Hills, the one responsible for her father’s death.
In the cast list, Eve Ridley goes by Ruthye, whereas Matthias Schoenaerts is known as Krem. Jason Momoa is expected to make a guest appearance as the extraterrestrial bounty hunter called Lobo.
Krumholtz and Beecham will play Supergirl’s parents.
The project marked one of the early developments by DC Studios, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. This team introduced it as part of their initial lineup. Alcock was selected for the role of Supergirl approximately a year ago and is set to debut in Gunn’s “Superman” film. The production of “Supergirl” begins this winter, with filming taking place in the UK.
From his teenage years, Krumholtz has been a seasoned actor, gaining recognition through roles in ‘The Santa Clause’ film series and starring for six seasons in the CBS crime drama ‘Numbers’, particularly during the 2000s. More recently, he portrayed Nobel Prize-winning physicist Isidor Rabi in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’.
As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that Beecham has made a name for herself, primarily through her captivating role in the thought-provoking Netflix series, 1899. She also graced our screens alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Guy Ritchie’s suspenseful movie, The Covenant. This month, I eagerly anticipate her performance in the historical epic, William Tell.
Krumholtz is managed by both Paradigm and Brookside, whereas Beecham is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Entertainment 360.
