In contemporary design of fighting games, it’s common to find that additional characters are regularly introduced to prolong the game’s playtime.
With Mai Shiranui joining the roster of Street Fighter VI in February, there’s just one more character left to get excited about in March – that’s right, Elena!
Elena is Coming to Street Fighter VI
In the official announcement for Year 2, Elena is identified as the final fighter to be included. The roster features characters such as M. Bison, Terry Bogard, and more recently, Mai Shiranui. Here’s a sneak peek at how Elena will appear in the game:
Unlike Terry and Mai, who were characters from the “Fatal Fury” series brought in as guest fighters, Elena is an original character from the “Street Fighter” universe that was introduced to players when “Street Fighter III: A New Generation” was released in 1997.
As a gamer, I’ve always admired the underdog characters, and Elena is one of them. She might not be as iconic as Chun-li or Cammy, but she’s been popping up in various games, making her mark in Street Fighter x Tekken and Ultra Street Fighter IV. Although she didn’t get a playable role in Street Fighter V, she still made an appearance, and now the anticipation is high for her to join the roster in SFVI.
What’s Elena Like in Street Fighter
In most games, Elena would be an excellent fit for the Capoeira fighting character. Previously, Dee Jay held this position, but Elena brings a captivating charm to the martial art and leaves a distinct impression with her striking appearance and impressive height.
Among the new characters introduced in the series, Elena is one of the ones who joins during its later stages. The show portrays her starting high school and socializing with other female students such as Sakura, Ibuki, and Makoto.
In the game, Elena originates from Africa and holds the title of a princess within her country. Her narrative unfolds as she interacts with various characters, having taken up the role of an exchange student. Later on, her story progresses and she pursues her education in France.
In terms of her battle style, Elena gracefully maneuvers across the battlefield, employing her extended limbs to strike her opponents. Additionally, she possesses a unique skill that enables her to restore health during combat. Notably, her striking appearance was selected by Capcom developers as a demonstration of the graphical capabilities of the CPS-3 hardware.
It remains uncertain as of now how significantly Elena’s character will evolve in “Street Fighter VI,” but there’s been a change to her outfit being less revealing, and some players online have voiced concerns about her healing ability. Therefore, it’s possible that Capcom might adjust this aspect for the game to maintain balance.
Elena hasn’t specified a release date yet, but there’s a chance that Capcom might give us a sneak peek around mid-March. It looks like a May launch could be possible.
It’s anticipated that Elena will be part of Street Fighter VI by the coming spring. Currently, the game can be played on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers.
