Hearing Keegan-Michael Key Discuss His Relationship With Jordan Peele Really Makes Me Miss Watching Them On Key And Peele

Making a mark in the world of sketch comedy can be tough, with success being even more elusive. The phenomenal show “Key & Peele“, which graced our television screens from 2012 to 2015 on Comedy Central, is a testament to this fact, having run for five seasons and launching the careers of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele into the stratosphere. Yet, fans have pondered over their decreased closeness, and now, the star of “Playing With Fire” has chosen to clarify their current relationship status.

After I earlier mentioned that they don’t get together often, the actor from “Jingle Jangle” has now elaborated on their current relationship. According to him, the main reason for this is the physical distance between them, as he shared with People magazine.

Whenever I can, I seize the chance to catch up with him. Whenever our paths cross or when my travels lead me to Los Angeles, he’s typically one of the first people I reach out to. Upon arriving, I usually give him a call saying, “Hey buddy, we’re in town,” and more often than not, we manage to have dinner together.

I truly yearn for the days when those two hilarious masterminds, Key and Peele, graced our screens with their collaboration on Key & Peele. Their comedic synergy was extraordinary, contributing significantly to the popularity of their Comedy Central sketch comedy series. Some of the funniest sketches were undoubtedly the ones where they seamlessly bounced ideas off each other, such as Luther, “Obama’s Anger Translator,” and “I Said Bitch.” It’s no wonder that the actor from Migration speaks about them carrying that same energy in their actual friendship.

Continuing to talk about where their relationship stands these days, Key explained:

In our bond, it feels as though we’re reconnecting with an old friend, effortlessly picking up conversations from where they were left, reminiscing about shared memories that bring us back together seamlessly. I eagerly anticipate meeting up with you again in the year 2025.

Is there a chance that Key might be alluding to a future collaboration between them? Given their past projects like Toy Story 4 and Wendell & Wild, it’s not entirely out of the question. However, it’s been nearly a decade since they last shared the screen in a project together. Frankly, it’s overdue!

After wrapping up their sketch comedy show, the funny duo stayed friends and collaborated again in the 2016 action-funny film “Keanu”. Later, they decided to concentrate on separate projects.

Peele significantly shifted his professional path towards the production of suspenseful and scary films, notably gaining wide acclaim for projects such as “Get Out” and “Nope,” which have contributed to a notable and respected standing in the industry.

On the contrary, Key’s repertoire primarily revolves around the realm of music and comedy, recently appearing in shows such as “Schmigadoon!” and “Wonka”.

Despite their different professional paths, it’s evident they haven’t had a rift. Now that we know where they stand in each other’s lives, fans can continue to hope for another collaboration. I’m eagerly anticipating the ‘Friends From College’ actor appearing in another horror-comedy directed by Peele. Maybe one day, the ‘Candyman’ producer will subtly reference ‘Key & Peele’ in his script, similar to how his friend included a ‘Transformers One’ nod in his movie.

To be straightforward, I must confess my hope is that they might dabble in some comedic sketches again, perhaps for a Super Bowl commercial, reminiscent of Suits’ style. The director of Us has openly expressed his dislike for genre constraints, and I sense he’s eager to delve into new territories. One of these ventures could potentially bring us more work from Key.
