The TikTok divest-or-ban bill has come for Marvel.
Unexpectedly, a bill enacted over the weekend caused TikTok to shut down, and surprisingly, the digital game “Marvel Snap” has followed suit. This game was jointly created by American independent game developer Second Dinner Studios and publishing partner Nuverse.
Despite being similar to TikTok, Nuverse is a property of the Chinese company ByteDance. Interestingly, those behind the game were taken aback when it suddenly disappeared from service.
Or:
Nuverse shares some resemblances with TikTok as they are both owned by the same conglomerate, ByteDance. However, the creators of the game were surprised to find that it had been taken offline unexpectedly.
Unfortunately, it appears that the Marvel Snap game is currently not accessible in U.S. app stores and cannot be played within the United States at this time. This unexpected situation was not part of our original plans, as stated by Second Dinner Studios. Rest assured, Marvel Snap will not be disappearing. We are diligently working to restore the game as quickly as possible and will keep you informed once we have further updates.
2022 saw the debut of Marvel Snap, which received numerous favorable reviews and even earned a nomination for a BAFTA Game Award. This game allows participants to engage in competition within an online Marvel world, utilizing digital decks of cards that possess unique abilities, as described by the company.
Whenever users launched the app or navigated to the Marvel Snap website, they were greeted with a notice stating that the game is “not accessible in your current country or region at this time.
As a devoted fan, I must clarify that Marvel Studios, the marvelous world I adore, is part of The Walt Disney Company’s impressive empire. Despite the temporary closure of Marvel Snap, it’s highly unlikely to cause substantial financial strain on this multifaceted corporation. Instead, they license their intellectual properties, such as Marvel Comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, to a variety of game developers for numerous video games.
On Saturday night in the U.S., TikTok temporarily shut down as its divestiture bill was about to be enacted into law. Despite being currently unavailable, the company expressed optimism that President Trump would help find a solution for TikTok’s reinstatement once he assumes office. They ask users to keep an eye out for updates.
Trump has hinted at his intention to attempt to resurrect TikTok, but the specifics of how and in what form this would happen are still undetermined.
