Recently, the legal dispute involving former collaborators Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively on the project It Ends with Us has taken a new direction. Following her initial lawsuit against Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and others, Lively officially filed a lawsuit this time accusing them of sexual harassment, retaliation, and more. This past week saw Baldoni and his associates counter-suit Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others, alleging defamation, extortion, and more. In response to the suit, Lively’s legal team has reacted, and now, Baldoni’s lawyer is taking a proactive approach.
Justin Baldoni’s legal team recently filed a lawsuit against Blake Lively and her associates, and in response, Lively’s team has characterized Baldoni’s actions as “another tactic in an abuser’s playbook” in a statement shared with Deadline. The team also stated that while victims are concentrating on the abuse, abusers focus on their victims, and they described the legal strategy as “desperate.” Over the weekend, Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, responded to the trade without sugarcoating his words regarding Lively’s team.
Following their clients submitting an extensive lawsuit consisting of approximately 200 pages of indisputable facts and authentic documents, which effectively debunked the baseless claims of a smear campaign by supplying falsified communications to The New York Times, Blake and her legal team are left with one remaining, malicious tactic: intensifying their groundless sexual accusations against Mr. Baldoni.
More on Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively
Although Blake Lively’s specific point hasn’t been widely discussed, I believe it is still relevant. To clarify, Justin Baldoni has no connection to this issue.
The intense legal exchange started in December 2020 when Blake Lively brought a lawsuit against Justin Baldoni and his colleagues at Wayfarer Studios, which was previously mentioned. This lawsuit contained charges of sexual harassment on the set of ‘It End with Us’, allegedly perpetrated by Baldoni, as well as claims that he and his crisis management team initiated a defamatory campaign against Lively. These accusations, along with leaked communications, were detailed in an explosive interview published by The New York Times. In response, Baldoni and his legal team denied the charges and later chose to file a lawsuit against The New York Times for $250 million, citing alleged libel and other issues.
In early January, an actress from “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” decided to legally take action against Justin Baldoni, who later announced his own intention to sue her. The director and co-star of “IEWU” then filed a lawsuit against this actress, along with Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloan (her publicist) and Vision PR. This lawsuit, valued at $400 million, also seems to involve other well-known figures, such as Taylor Swift, who finds this confusing. Additionally, Baldoni sent a legal notice to Marvel Studios, claiming that Reynolds was mocking him through the Nicepool character in “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
In the midst of ongoing legal disputes, Blake Lively’s team firmly rejects any suggestion that this is a personal “feud.” On the other hand, Bryan Freedman, representing the director of Five Feet Apart, appears determined to defend his client. The lawsuit against Lively and her husband seems to stem from the belief that they are leveraging their celebrity status to control this case, a claim reinforced by Freedman in another statement to Deadline.
It’s absurd that Ms. Lively thinks she can tarnish Mr. Baldoni’s reputation publicly, aiming to ruin his career, and then deny him or his team the chance to defend themselves. Interestingly, Mr. Baldoni never tried to publicly call out Ms. Lively for her mistakes during filming; instead, he addressed all her concerns properly and respectfully, even when he disagreed with her. He was committed to doing things differently and maintaining peace, as acknowledged by Ms. Lively herself in her lawsuit. We will not only stand firm in defending our clients against Blake’s influence, falsehoods, and lies, but we will also intensify our efforts to support the voiceless in the domestic violence community who are unfairly suffering due to her ongoing self-serving and selfish campaign in the media.
According to reports from the trade, the ongoing Lively/Baldoni dispute might lead to further legal actions. The final outcome of this situation is still uncertain. At present, it appears that both parties are unwilling to yield their positions in this extensive courtroom confrontation.
