Everything to Know About ‘Landman’ Season 2
- Season 2 Will Film in 2025
After two months and ten thrilling episodes, the explosive Season 1 finale of Landman aired on January 12, 2025. The latest creation by Taylor Sheridan ended with a big blast, paving the way for new situations in Season 2. Although Paramount+ has not officially renewed the show for another season yet, Demi Moore, who is greatly underused in the series, hinted that filming will start around early 2025. So, let’s dive deeper to uncover what’s next in this captivating oil and gas industry saga.
As a cinephile, I can’t help but marvel at Sheridan’s knack for broadening TV universes in daring, epic seasons, sequels, and spinoffs. Yet, when it comes to Landman’s next chapter, the possibilities are endless. But, with Season 1, Episode 10’s heart-wrenching climax, “The Crumbs of Hope,” under our belts, it seems inevitable that Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) will grapple with the aftermath of a departing friend, a vengeful drug ring, and the enigmatic presence of Galino (Andy Garcia).
‘Landman’ Season 1’s Story
Taylor Sheridan developed the oil and gas industry drama Landman, inspired by Christian Wallace’s Boomtown podcast. This series unfolds in West Texas, a region inhabited by both wealthy tycoons and hardworking oil rig workers. At the heart of this story is Tommy Norris (Thornton), who holds crucial positions at M-Tex Oil as Vice President of Operations and an “oil Landman,” a general term for a business administrator in this field.
In his attempts to maintain M-Tex as stable and financially sound as he can, Tommy juggles the complexities of his personal life – most notably his ex-wife Angela (Ali Larter), along with their children Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and Cooper (Jacob Lofland). One of Landman’s significant struggles during Season 1 revolves around a drug cartel unintentionally hit by an experimental bomb on M-Tex Oil’s premises, triggering a potentially harmful retaliation that Tommy must thwart.
The main characters in the series also include Monty Miller, portrayed by Jon Hamm, who is the CEO of M-Tex Oil and has a lengthy partnership with Tommy. His wife, Cami, played by Demi Moore, is another significant character. Alex Meraz plays Jimenez, a drug cartel manager, while his boss, Galino, is depicted by Andy Garcia. The oil crew is led by Boss (Mustafa Speaks) and Armando (Michael Peña), who are among several other oil workers in the team.
What ‘Landman’s Finale Means for Season 2
In the season finale of M-Tex Oil, Tommy is constantly trying to dodge legal responsibility, prevent lawsuits, and maintain his company’s leading position in the gas industry. However, one obstacle follows another until Monty Miller’s health takes a turn for the worse. Stricken by his third heart attack, Monty is rushed to a hospital in Fort Worth. Tommy pays him a visit, where he meets Cami and expresses sympathy. Unfortunately, Monty’s poor health worsens due to complications from a heart transplant, leading to his untimely demise in Landman’s Season 1 finale, leaving the future of M-Tex Oil uncertain.
Before his death, Monty confided in Tommy that he should assume control of M-Tex Oil. In the second season, with Monty no longer present, it’s clear that Tommy will shoulder a greater burden, working diligently to prevent major legal issues and maintain the company’s profitability.
Indeed, it’s worth noting that Sheridan has a history of incorporating deceased characters via flashbacks in past series, which has sparked speculation among fans that Monty might still be alive. However, Wallace clarified Monty’s fate to Variety back in 2025, confirming that Monty is indeed dead.
When a significant competitor leaves the game, it creates chances for others to step up, and as much as I can share now, I believe that’s about the extent of my disclosures at this moment.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my anticipation about the potential additions to the cast in Landman Season 2. Cami and Galino, two captivating characters from the series, truly deserve a larger spotlight in the upcoming season.
Everything to Know About ‘Landman’ Season 2
Prior to delving into Cami and Galino, Billy Bob Thornton discussed potential plotlines for Season 2 with The Hollywood Reporter. He suggested that while it’s unlikely Tommy would want to become M-Tex’s next CEO, he may feel obliged to fulfill Monty’s dying wish by settling a debt to his old friend and former boss, a decision that could significantly impact the psychological development of the main character in Season 2.
Thornton shared that he hopes to see more interaction between Tommy and Galino, the enigmatic cartel leader who rescued him following an abduction and assault by a Texas gang in the Season 2 finale, as stated in The Los Angeles Times interview with him.
It would be interesting to delve into the unusual predicament Tommy finds himself in with Andy’s character. Previously, Tommy had handled henchmen effortlessly. However, now he faces an intelligent adversary who is his equal. This situation resembles a chess game, and I hope this aspect is further developed.
It seems odd to bring established actors like Andy Garcia and Demi Moore into Season 1, only to use them sparingly. The same can be said for Demi Moore, who’s currently enjoying an award-winning resurgence with her performance in “The Substance” in 2024. However, both Garcia’s Galino and Moore’s Cami are poised to take on more significant roles in Landman Season 2, with a greater emphasis on dramatic storylines when the series returns.
Season 2 Will Film in 2025
2024 saw an exciting moment at the Cannes Film Festival in May when actor Julianne Moore hinted at the filming schedule for “Landman” Season 2 during a casual conversation. When queried about her on-screen partnership with Jon Hamm, Moore playfully confirmed (as reported by Deadline) their collaboration in the upcoming season.
I believe we both looked fantastic. Hamm was charming, and I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Billy Bob Thornton for quite some time. I’ve already wrapped up the first season, and I can hardly wait for us to kick off the second one, which is set to begin early next year.
In early 2025, it’s likely that production for Season 2 of Landman will start, leading fans to look forward to more screen time for Cami and Galino as Tommy assumes the role of CEO at M-Tex Oil after Monty’s passing. As the main characters reappear, a new central conflict is expected along with the introduction of fresh actors joining the cast.
