TikTok has resumed operations. According to a statement made on Sunday, they’re working on bringing the service back online as they navigate the process of complying with President Trump’s promise to issue an order delaying the enactment of legislation that demands the company sell off its assets.
On Saturday evening, the widely-used social video platform mysteriously shut down in the United States, mere hours before a divestiture bill was due to take effect at midnight on January 19th.
According to the Biden administration, it’s not their responsibility to carry out actions related to the law; instead, this task will be passed on to the incoming Administration, which starts on Monday.
On his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump expressed his desire for companies not to keep TikTok inactive, stating, “I wish for the U.S. to hold a 50% stake in a joint venture with it.
After some time had passed, TikTok expressed gratitude towards Trump for offering clear guidance and reassurance to the suppliers of its services. This assurance meant that they would not be penalized for providing TikTok to more than 170 million Americans, and it also allowed over 7 million small businesses to prosper.
The argument persisted, stating, ‘We are firmly committed to upholding the First Amendment and resisting unjust censorship. We aim to collaborate with President Trump to develop a lasting strategy that ensures TikTok remains operational within the U.S.’
On Sunday, the online version of the video game Marvel Snap, which is owned by ByteDance like TikTok, unexpectedly stopped functioning. Second Dinner Studios, the American developers, stated that this outage was unforeseen and not part of their plans. They are currently working diligently to restore the game as quickly as possible. At the time of publication, the game’s official website remained unavailable.
