Looking forward to the imminent arrival of Season 2 of “The Night Agent,” it’s been quite a wait, with only sporadic updates and a change in filming locations. However, Netflix recently announced a January release date, and things have picked up since then! Now, our main character Gabriel Basso is giving interviews for the new season, revealing an interesting fact about the show’s production that I hadn’t known: he performed many of his own stunts, much like Tom Cruise does in most of his films.
In a recent late-night interview, Basso discussed the upcoming episodes of his series, set to premiere on Netflix on January 23rd. He elaborated on why he puts so much effort into stunts for the show, and it’s all about providing an authentic viewing experience for the audience.
Instead of saying “Yeah [I do my stunts], but not because I want to boast that I can do them,” you could rephrase it as: “Indeed, I perform my own stunts, yet I don’t do so for personal glory. Rather, it’s about creating a more immersive experience for the audience. I dislike the idea of the action stopping just before I get hit or tossed, only to cut to me from behind. It feels dishonest.
Basso was talking to Jimmy Fallon in a Tonight Show clip about the upcoming episodes when he waxed about doing his own stuntwork, but we’ve seen him working hard in the past, both in the gym and while filming the series. I find the whole thing pretty admirable.
While winding up the shoot, he posted a photo of a jaw-dropping escape trick, and also showed glimpses of his time at the location during the filming of Season 2 of “The Night Agent”, similarly.

He truly goes the extra mile, doing as much as possible, even when it’s tough, and it’s not for show or to appear cool. For him, rapid transitions (quick cut-tos) can feel inauthentic, or as he describes it, “it feels like a deception.
I appreciate acting; I dislike dishonesty, and there seems to be quite a contrast between them. For the sake of keeping the audience captivated and maintaining their belief, it’s crucial for them to connect with Peter, even if he appears to take blows. If that means I have to collide with walls, then so be it. It’s not a big deal in my opinion.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but appreciate the artistry behind performances that require a blend of skill and courage. I wouldn’t for a moment fault an artist who needs assistance to ensure their safety on set. However, when an actor like Basso manages to execute a significant portion, if not most, of his own stunts, it adds a layer of authenticity that truly resonates with viewers, potentially contributing significantly to the captivating appeal of the Netflix action-thriller.
In fact, Netflix has high expectations for this series and has already renewed it for Season 3, so if you have a Netflix subscription, you can confidently binge-watch knowing there will be more episodes. I’m hoping that means the ending of Season 2 is exciting as well. We’ll find out when the show returns in less than a week.
C’mon Netflix, bring on the cliffhangers!
