As a devoted film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Sean Baker’s masterpiece, “Anora,” has stolen the spotlight at the 2025 Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards! It’s been nominated in no less than five categories, including best picture, best screenplay, and best director. This news, announced just yesterday, has me on cloud nine!
The humorous film by Baker, titled “Screwball Romance,” revolves around a young prostitute’s love story with the offspring of a Russian billionaire. This production garnered acting recognition as well, with Mikey Madison receiving a nomination for Best Actress and Yuri Borisov for Best Supporting Actor.
Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” received nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor (Adrien Brody). On the other hand, Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain” will battle it out in the categories of Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Supporting Actor (Kieran Culkin).
