- Crazy Ones is a new male-centric otomo release that’s out now
- It combines turn-based battles with narrative-based dating gameplay
- Four distinct characters with different personalities revolve around the player
In simpler terms, when referring to something being “one-of-a-kind,” I find it somewhat ambiguous. Instead, I prefer to consider each thing as unique in its own small distinctions. However, the label of Crazy Ones being marketed as the first male-centric, turn-based otome game did make me question it a bit.
If you find yourself a bit puzzled, that’s understandable. Named after Steve Jobs’ quote “Here’s to the Crazy Ones”, this title follows a male protagonist who gets entangled in the fast-paced corporate world. As expected, there are plenty of romantic and dramatic twists as he encounters four unique women throughout his journey.
This group consists of Hakuo, a trusted HR manager, Hyouka Natsume, who’s known as the tsundere president at our competitor, Natsume Technology Group, along with aspiring musician Chika Ono and Tomoko, the apprentice of the main character. The unique blend here is that it also involves strategic turn-based battles using cards derived from the main character’s memories.
Driving me crazy
Instead of delving into numerous points, let me focus on one aspect: The unique selling point of Crazy Ones lies in its emphasis on building an emotional bond between the player and the fictional girlfriends, rather than relying solely on fanservice. Additionally, while it might be intriguing to speculate about potential narrative surprises given its title, I must acknowledge that Crazy Ones appears to be a promising visual novel-style game for enthusiasts of this genre.
As a gamer myself, I must admit I have my doubts when I hear that multiple romances are marketed as a game’s attractive feature. It seems a bit questionable to me. However, if you’re curious about this unique take, you can check out “The Crazy Ones” for yourself on the iOS App Store or Google Play right now!
