The title “Unstoppable” proves to be accurate, indeed. The captivating true-life wrestler’s tale has soared to the number one spot on Prime Video’s streaming chart within the U.S., according to Flix Patrol. Featuring Jennifer Lopez and Jharrel Jerome, this film has garnered acclaim for its authentic adaptation of the story and the inspirational chords it strikes that are characteristic of a biopic. While “Unstoppable” may not redefine the genre, it undeniably resonates with audiences through its compelling portrayal.
The compelling true tale unfolds around Anthony Robles (portrayed by Jharrel Jerome), born with only one leg, yet possessing an indomitable spirit and unyielding determination that propelled him beyond expectations. His journey is driven by the steadfast affection and backing of his resilient mother Judy (Jennifer Lopez) and the guidance of his coaches. Despite overwhelming challenges, Anthony battles relentlessly to secure a place on the Arizona State Wrestling team. However, his ultimate goal – becoming an NCAA Champion – will require every ounce of his strength, both physical and mental.
‘Unstoppable’ Star Was Featured in Another Heartbreaking True Story
In the heart of this Prime Video drama lies a captivating true story bolstered by notable talent. Notably, Jharrel Jerome, who was previously seen in the critically acclaimed Netflix miniseries “When They See Us,” created by Ava DuVernay, a past Oscar nominee. In that series, Jerome portrayed Korey Wise, one of the five young men wrongfully accused and imprisoned in the 1989 Central Park jogger case. The gripping portrayal of real-life events earned Jerome the well-deserved Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. With “When They See Us” and the Oscar-winning film “Moonlight” (2016) already on his resume, Jerome is steadily building an impressive body of work.
In my role as a movie critic, I find myself eagerly anticipating the release of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Sequel,” or as it’s tentatively known, “Beyond the Spider-Verse.” Though I haven’t had the chance to lay down my lines for this much-awaited flick just yet, I’m excited to step into the shoes of Miles G. Morales – a darker, alternate take on our beloved Spidey.
Meanwhile, my “Unstoppable” co-star, the multi-talented Jennifer Lopez, has been making waves in the streaming world lately. With Netflix hits like “Atlas” and “The Mother,” as well as her recent foray into Prime Video with “Shotgun Wedding,” she continues to captivate audiences worldwide. It’s always a pleasure to share the screen with such a powerhouse performer!
