Artistic prodigy Angela Santana is set to grace the galleries of Saatchi Yates in London once more, presenting a fresh solo exhibition. This time around, she offers an impressive collection of oversized oil paintings that challenge traditional portrayals of femininity. Instead, Santana transforms the female form into a dynamic space of transformation.
The show delves into the topics of self-identity and personal evolution, focusing on how our physical selves are portrayed in today’s digital world. In this image-driven era, Santana proposes a shift: to redefine traditional shapes into dreamlike abstracts, finding inspiration in the tumultuous landscape of the internet rather than viewing it as an obstacle.
In an interview with Hypebae after her debut exhibition, Santana shared that she learned to depict the female form in art since her early years, not by visualizing my own feminine image, but by following the examples set by others prior. Her intention was to obliterate past recollections and instead craft a fresh, revered image from those memories.
The showcase is currently accessible in London until February 22, 2025. For additional information, check out Hypebae’s website.
