Bela’s Hilarious Comeback: The Sex Lives of College Girls Finally Delivers!

Although acknowledged as a “rebuilding” season, Season 3 of The Sex Lives of College Girls has persistently delivered laugh-out-loud and dramatic episodes, following the Essex girls during their second year of college. While I do miss Reneé Rapp’s portrayal of Leighton at times, the returning and fresh cast members have excelled, crafting some of the series’ most captivating storylines so far. Overall, it’s been a delight to watch these characters develop, but there has been one character this season that I find myself somewhat underwhelmed by.

In contrast to many other female characters who developed along their established arcs from Season 1, Bela (played by Amrit Kaur) appeared to struggle during Season 2, both romantically and otherwise. Fortunately, this began to improve noticeably as we moved into the latter part of Season 3.

In the debut of Season 3, Bela was still grappling with the aftermath of being expelled from the humor-focused magazine club she founded in Season 2. Recognizing that she had prioritized romantic entanglements over academics throughout her freshman year, she decided to switch gears this season. This led her to abandon comedy pursuits and throw herself wholeheartedly into her new role as the Freshman Advisor and Friend program (FAF for short).

To set the record straight, there’s no denying that some captivating plotlines have emerged from Mia Rodgers’ latest adventure, encompassing her intricate dynamic with Taylor and her evolving bond with FAF member Arvind, which started as friendship and blossomed into something more. However, I can’t help but feel that Bela has been reduced to a mere shadow of the vibrant individual she used to be without comedy in her world.

In the process of the other girls realizing their aspirations from Season 1, it appeared as though Bela had largely abandoned her goal of being a prominent figure in the comedy world, until…

Bela Got Her Groove Back In Episode 9

As I found myself awake after an uneasy night spent with Arvind, I couldn’t help but scrutinize Bela for her colorful romantic past. Little did I know that this introspective moment would spark a transformation within her. Seizing the opportunity, she signed up for a storytelling event, where she intended to weave tales about the peaks and valleys of her amorous escapades, laced with humor.

The moment she committed to this daring endeavor, Bela’s former vibrant self began to blossom once more.

She’s leaning over her computer, composing jokes and grinning broadly, utterly committed to taking part in the show despite Arvid’s concerns about her discussing her personal life openly on a public platform. This is Bela, as we knew her from Season 1, and she’s been conspicuously absent this season.

As the final episode approaches, it’s disheartening that the writers didn’t bring Bela back to her original path sooner, but at least she’s found her way now. I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming episode and hope to witness Bela shine in the storytelling showcase. Perhaps this will help her understand that she truly belongs in the comedy world. If the series is renewed for a fourth season, we might get to watch her pursue her dream with renewed determination.

On Thursday, January 23rd, the concluding episode of “The Sex Lives of College Girls” will be aired. Before that, you have the opportunity to stream previous episodes of this acclaimed comedy from Max. Enjoy!
