BEWARE OF SPOILERS: This upcoming discussion delves into details from the movie “The Wolf Man”. Viewer discretion is advised if you haven’t watched it yet. Proceed with caution!
During the third act of “The Wolf Man,” actor Christopher Abbott’s character Blake transforms completely under the influence of the Wolf Infection, and a humorous thought crossed my mind during the scene where he becomes trapped while hunting his wife and daughter in a barn. To escape, he doesn’t hesitate to bite into his own ankle… This made me reflect on the grim destiny of Adam, the main character in James Wan’s “Saw,” portrayed by Leigh Whannell who also wrote and directed “The Wolf Man.
It turns out I wasn’t the only one thinking along those lines. Earlier this month, during an interview with the filmmaker about his recent project, he not only acknowledged that certain sequence as a “full circle moment,” but also shared an interesting, behind-the-scenes fact about how it was filmed. In his own words, Whannell said…
In a memorable instance on set, I found myself saying, “Look, this is where we were before.” Interestingly enough, the limb that Chris appeared to be gnawing on was crafted from white chocolate! Yes, you heard it right. So in reality, he was indulging in… But this moment brought a sense of completion for me. It felt odd because when Saw premiered, James Wan and I were considered the newcomers; we were the young ones. However, being back on set now, we’ve become the veterans, which made this a truly circular experience. It was quite surreal, almost like saying, “Wow.

If you’re encountering a mental obstacle or haven’t seen the film Saw, Leigh Whannell’s character Adam starts off chained to a wall in a grimy basement bathroom. Unlike Dr. Lawrence Gordon, portrayed by Cary Elwes, who resorts to sawing off his own foot as an escape attempt, Adam remains trapped throughout the movie. It’s conceivable that he could have survived using a strategy similar to the Wolf Man’s… but I’d argue it would be incredibly challenging to cope with the awareness that you once had to amputate your own limb (which I believe is far more traumatic than sawing).
And it most certainly would not have tasted like white chocolate.
As a fan, I’m excited to share that “Wolf Man” is now playing in theaters nationwide! If you’re curious about Leigh Whannell’s beginnings, why not take a trip down memory lane and stream his groundbreaking debut, “Saw”. It’s readily available for streaming with an Amazon Prime Video subscription, but remember to add on the MovieSphere+ package to unlock this classic. Enjoy the ride!
