If you found The Boys to be intensely violent, prepare yourself for even more gruesome scenes, as the upcoming Crossed film (derived from the graphic novel penned by The Boys creator, Garth Ennis) has recently secured a talented horror director. Originally published from 2008-2010, Crossed was co-created by Ennis and Jacen Burrows. Last year in August, the film adaptation was announced, with Ennis himself writing the script based on his own comic book series. Recently, this movie project has made a significant leap forward, moving one step closer to gracing our screens with bloodshed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rob Jabbaz, a Canadian director renowned for the 2021 zombie horror film “The Sadness,” has been chosen as the director for the upcoming movie “Crossed.” Known for his unflinching portrayal of violence and gore, “The Sadness” appears to be an ideal lead-up for Jabbaz to helm the new “Crossed” project, given its graphic novel’s similar brutal depictions. As of now, a release date for the movie remains undisclosed. However, it is anticipated that “Crossed” will commence production in March, with casting announcements expected to follow soon.
Rob Jabbaz enthusiastically discussed his involvement in the forthcoming film version of “Crossed”. He stated, “Working with Garth Ennis and Six Studios on this project has been a genuine pleasure.” Jabbaz assures that the film will largely embody the essence of Garth Ennis’ cherished narrative. “Since day one, our main objective has been to present an authentic adaptation of the original comic series, while also offering some unexpected twists,” he added. Expressing his anticipation, Jabbaz queries if viewers are prepared for this cinematic experience. Meanwhile, in the article, Garth Ennis himself expressed his excitement about “Crossed” finally making it to the big screen. The esteemed author commented:
Here’s to a Fresh Start in 2025! Regrettably, the globe seems to be mirroring the universe of Crossed in undesirable manners. Therefore, could there be a more fitting moment to unveil the film you’ve all eagerly anticipated?
What Is ‘Crossed’ About?
In the realm of cinematic critiques, let me share my thoughts on “Crossed.” This movie is set in a world strikingly familiar to our own, but ravaged by a pandemic that unleashes the darkest aspects of human nature. The virus leaves its victims with a chilling mark – a giant cross burned onto their faces. Reminiscent of Jabbaz’s 2021 zombie sensation, “The Sadness,” we see a pandemic that transforms its hosts into bloodthirsty creatures. However, unlike in “The Sadness,” the infected in “Crossed” retain their pre-infection intellect and abilities, making them an even more formidable threat.
Garth Ennis, famously known for creating ‘The Boys’ and ‘Preacher’, both of which became hit series on Amazon Prime Video, is acknowledged for his work in comic books. Readers of these shows are aware of their graphic violence. However, ‘Crossed’ takes it a step further. In an interview with CBR in 2008, Ennis explained the plot:
The Crossed are individuals who have chosen a path of wickedness, completely immersed in the exploration of their darkest thoughts. They find pleasure in acts such as murder, rape, and destruction, with particularly brutal and original actions being their preference. Therefore, they will utilize every available physical and mental resource without concern for the consequences. This means that even a young girl of five years old could pose a threat, since she seems indifferent to harm while she savagely attempts to tear off your eyelids.
No release date has yet been revealed for Crossed.
