Jimmy Kimmel and Donald Trump have a long history of exchanging barbs, which was particularly evident during the 2024 Oscars when Kimmel’s remarks about Trump as host drew a response from the then-former, now-current president on his Truth Social platform. Now, it seems that Kimmel is once again likely to find himself under the scrutiny of President Trump following his recent comments regarding Trump’s visit to fire-ravaged Los Angeles over the weekend.
Donald Trump recently declared that he plans to pay a visit to the location ravaged by destructive wildfires within his initial week back at work. However, this visit has not been met with enthusiasm due to Trump’s perceived exploitation of the fires to further some of his opinions about California residents. Jimmy Kimmel, among others, is far from eager to offer a warm welcome to President Trump, and on Thursday, he started his show with a biting monologue in which he proposed that the visit serves as an opportunity for Trump to “finger-point at us for the fires personally.” He stated:
For the first time ever, a massive natural disaster is expected to follow a smaller one. It seems like he’s heading there primarily to assess the aftermath and confer with the governor, but also to take a brief break from Elon.
It’s clear that many of us expected Donald Trump to be a poor president. However, what caught us off guard was his willingness to endanger us in an emergency situation if he doesn’t get his way. His actions are just absurd and it leaves us in a difficult position where we’re hoping he returns our own funds while the place is on fire, so to speak.
Kimmel’s Monologue Is a Direct Response to Several Key Issue
As a film enthusiast and an ardent critic of political discourse, I can confidently say that I’ll never back Donald Trump in any shape or form. My recent monologue was aimed at shedding light on multiple reasons why many Californians chose not to re-elect him in the November 2024 election. Interestingly, Kamala Harris garnered an impressive 58% of the vote, while Trump managed only 38%.
In a speech, Kimmel implied that California and other high-tax Democratic states are essentially lending money to lower-tax Republican states due to their tax structures. Interestingly, Trump has hinted at retaliation against California if they don’t support his immigration policies by denying them federal disaster aid when needed. Kimmel further commented:
[Kimmel’s Comment:] “If this were a relationship, California would be the generous partner constantly bailing out the deadbeat, and Trump would be that deadbeat.
It seems like we’re in a situation where we’re being deprived of aid, similar to someone named Eric restricting an allowance as a lesson. While it may appear cruel for one to manipulate disaster relief funds for personal gain, there’s no other perspective to consider here. It’s simply the self-serving move of that individual.
Maybe it’s worth considering that Kimmel extends a personal greeting to President Trump upon his arrival, an event potentially livestreamed as a pay-per-view special on Netflix. This could break records and be their highest-streamed live event yet – think along the lines of a Fight Night spectacle. After all, it’s not unheard of for extraordinary events to unfold these days.
