When FKA twigs unveiled her album titled EUSEXUA, her first complete studio release since the 2022 mixtape CAPRISONGS, she characterized the title (a fusion of “sex” and “euphoria”) as “an exercise, a state of being, and the peak of human experience.” Now that we have the long-awaited EUSEXUA, it’s clear that her words perfectly encapsulate the essence of this album. Consisting of 11 dance-inspired tracks, EUSEXUA transcends mere music, instead embodying a powerful sensation – one that resonates deeply within you.
Driven by her deep affection for techno music, which captivated her during her stay in Prague, the album reflects the excitement she experienced at underground raves and DJ sets in warehouses. The energy she felt there is transformed through her unique artistic perspective. Each track on the album is a unique “eusexua”, blending synths and strings while maintaining cohesion with twigs’ otherworldly vocals.
The mysterious Twigs dominates most of the captivating album, with contributions from Koreless on the track “Drums of Death” and North West, earning her second official studio credit on “Childlike Things.” Pre-released songs like “Eusexua,” which sets the tone for the album, and “Perfect Stranger,” appearing as the first and third tracks respectively, are standout highlights in this evocative and dreamlike sonic landscape. The upbeat, hedonistic track titled “Girl Feels Good” follows at number two, while the sultry track “Striptease” winds things down toward the end.
