Junya Watanabe MAN FW25 Is a Nod to the Rugged Gentleman

At Junya Watanabe MAN‘s Fall/Winter 2025 showcase in Paris, a comeback of plaid patterns can be seen. The latest collection draws inspiration from the image of rugged masculinity and outdoor adventurers.

Straight away, the music played was a blend of folk and country tunes, signaling the style that awaits the viewers. The models, clad in classic Levi’s denim jeans and traditional patterns like buffalo plaid or Prince of Wales check, gave an impression of campers who appreciate nature. They portrayed a contemporary version of the lumberjack persona, with their clothes exuding a rough, manly vibe. Bearded men strutted down the runway in the newest plaid outfits, cowboy hats, and simplified canvas chore jackets.

In this rephrased version, I aimed to keep the original meaning intact while making it more accessible and easy to read for a wider audience.

This collection is designed for the rugged, outdoors-loving working man who has a refined taste, often resembling the North American logging worker with a hint of hipster style. Yet, true to Junya Watanabe’s signature blend, it combines elegant silhouettes such as leather trench coats and military jackets and overcoats with traditional plaid and canvas workwear-style outerwear. The collaboration aspect is strong in this collection, featuring Filson duffels and matching accessories that complement the outdoorsy look. The runway show introduced a pair of collaborative New Balance 471s in navy, along with boat shoe loafers, trail boots, and denim jeans from Levi’s as part of the collaboration mix.
