Chhaava: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s descendant urges makers of Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna starrer to consult historians for THIS reason

The historical film “Chhaava,” focusing on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is approaching its release soon. Not too long ago, the trailer for the movie starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna was unveiled. However, a relative of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has requested the filmmakers to consult historians prior to its premiere, in order to rectify any potential inaccuracies that may have been included in the production.

In a chat with PTI, the former Rajya Sabha MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati – a relative of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj – discussed the upcoming movie titled “Chhaava.” He commended the film for highlighting the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He disclosed that Laxman Utekar, the director of the movie, previewed the trailer to him.

Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati mentioned that he wanted to see the whole movie before it was publicly released, and suggested to the creators. Furthermore, he proposed linking them with historians so they could correct any inaccuracies, ensuring that this important tale is portrayed accurately for global viewers.

Previously elected official shared additional insights, revealing that historians have not been consulted as of yet regarding the production. Moreover, he pointed out a specific dance sequence in the preview that resembles the lezim dance. Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati expressed concern, stating, “Although the lezim is significant within our cultural legacy, it’s crucial to debate if such dramatic liberties uphold the honor and historical accuracy of Sambhaji Maharaj.” He emphasized that experts should weigh in on the appropriateness of this dance sequence.

Before the release of the full movie trailer, separate posters featuring the main actors were revealed by the production team. Vicky Kaushal takes on the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Rashmika Mandanna portraying Maharani Yesubai. Akshaye Khanna will depict Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, while Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, Diana Penty, and Santosh Juvekar are also part of the ensemble cast.

The promotional materials for the upcoming movie titled “Chhaava” have stirred up a great deal of enthusiasm among viewers, who are now eagerly waiting for its release. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan at Maddock Films, this film boasts music composed by AR Rahman. On Valentine’s Day in 2025, “Chhaava” will grace the big screen.
