As a fan, I must admit it’s quite challenging to witness Adam Scott on his latest series, “Severance,” given his exceptional performance as Ben Wyatt in “Parks and Recreation.” Ben was the endearing, nerdy state auditor with a soft spot for calzones, claymation, and Leslie Knope.
Recently, I’ve seen interviews where Scott has been asked about returning to the show, and surprisingly, he shared a genuinely heartwarming reason why he hasn’t been revisiting it frequently like many of us fans do.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, host Josh Horowitz played a cherished clip featuring Adam Scott’s character Ben Wyatt asking the audience if a “depressed person could create this” while displaying a clay figure he made during unemployment. Upon watching the scene, Scott admitted that it had been a long time since he last saw such a scene from the show, expressing it by saying: “I haven’t seen a scene from the show in years.
To be truthful, it’s been a while since I last watched the series, as watching it brings back feelings of nostalgia and sadness, as I miss the cast. Despite staying connected with them, I yearn for the days when we were creating the show. For me, those five years (seven years for the show) were filled with immense joy. Working there each day alongside that group of people was a blast, and we were making something significant to both us and the audience. Therefore, it’s been quite some time since I last watched it, but I ought to revisit it soon, as those were truly enjoyable times.
Hard to believe, but it’s almost a full ten years since the conclusion of “Parks and Recreation” this upcoming month! Despite the passage of time, it seems the cast remains closely connected through a group text message. This bond was evident when Scott and Amy Poehler unexpectedly attended the premiere of “Agatha All Along” in September to support their fellow cast members Aubrey Plaza and Kathryn Hahn. Last year, when TopMob interviewed Jim O’Heir about his “Parks And Rec” book, he expressed the immense gratitude the entire cast holds for the series.
As a movie reviewer reflecting upon Adam Scott’s candid thoughts about not revisiting “Parks and Recreation,” his words resonate deeply because they underscore the profound impact that show had on him as an actor, and how the irreplaceable moments spent working on the series are now a cherished memory of the past. While viewers can continue to enjoy the show through a Peacock subscription, for Adam Scott, the unique energy of creating the series is something he can no longer recapture.
In 2020, the cast of “Parks and Recreation” got together again to support Feeding America in their fight against hunger amidst the COVID-19 crisis. When one actor was questioned about potential stories left untold about Pawnee, he stated that any future narrative would depend on the creative minds of Mike Schur and Greg Daniels, should they have more ideas for the show’s characters.
Right now, you have the opportunity to watch Adam Scott in the ensemble of ‘Severance’ streaming on Apple TV+. Don’t miss our unique conversation with the actor as he shares behind-the-scenes insights into the thrilling start of Season 2.
