Dark Horse Comics Drops Neil Gaiman, Cancels Upcoming Releases Following Abuse Allegations

It’s been announced that Dark Horse Comics has decided to stop producing comic book adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s works, such as his “Anansi Boys” series.

On Friday, the publishing company explained their decision by referring to the recent sexual abuse allegations against Neil Gaiman, which have been highlighted in a cover story by New York Magazine this month. The article detailed new claims of sexual assault and abuse from eight women, and it follows a podcast released in July 2024 called Master, where five women made graphic accusations, four of whom were also mentioned in the New York Mag report.

Gaiman refuted the allegations via a representative and on his personal blog, stating that the interactions were consensual. The Hollywood Reporter sought comments from his representatives following Dark Horse’s announcement.

In the article, Gaiman admitted, “Reflecting on them now, I see there were numerous opportunities for improvement. I wasn’t always attentive to others’ feelings while still being open to physical intimacy, more self-centered than considerate, and perhaps not as caring as I should have been.

The Dark Horse comic series titled “Anansi Boys,” which draws inspiration from Neil Gaiman’s novels of the same title, is currently being adapted into a television show. This adaptation is in production and features Whoopi Goldberg as part of its cast. The release date for this series is set for later this year. The Hollywood Reporter has made contact with the streaming service to gather more information on this project.

In production continues for Season 2 of Netflix’s The Sandman, another take on Neil Gaiman’s stories; THR sought a comment from Netflix. Good Omens season 3 on Prime Video concludes with a 90-minute episode not featuring Neil Gaiman’s involvement, and Disney has halted production on their movie adaptation of The Graveyard Book based on Gaiman’s work.
