☎️ Heads up, fellow film enthusiasts! I’m about to dive into some intriguing insights on the first two episodes of Season 2 for the captivating series, Severance. If you haven’t yet watched these episodes, consider this your friendly reminder to hold off until you’ve caught up with the previous installments. Trust me; it’s a journey worth taking before we embark together on the next phase of this thought-provoking tale!
Among the outstanding series on Apple TV+, “Severance” has returned to our screens in the 2025 schedule, promising an exhilarating journey ahead. Just over a week since its second season premiere, the unique office-thriller created by Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson has left viewers pondering more questions than it has answered. With only two episodes released so far, most of the Lumon mysteries remain shrouded in mystery for fans. However, the release of these new episodes has sparked a flurry of “Severance” theories across the internet, with one popular theory revolving around the character Helly R.
It’s been widely speculated among fans that Helly R., in this second season, may not be who we think she is. Many believe she is actually undercover as Helena Eagan, spying on her former colleagues. This theory has been circulating since the premiere of Season 2, and it’s one of the most popular fan theories online. Content creators like @andrewsvisual on Tik Tok have presented compelling arguments: for example, her sudden awkwardness with Mark, her clumsy handling of her computer switch, and the fact that she lied about her experiences outside the group.
Many of these videos suggest that the primary proof that Britt Lower’s innie character isn’t who she claims to be is their last argument. However, I have a different perspective on this matter.
The Main Piece of Evidence Surrounding The Helena Spy Theory
In Season 2, Episode 1, once we find the four Macro Data Refiners isolated, they immediately start discussing their experiences outside of Lumon. When it’s Helly’s turn to speak, she pauses briefly before revealing that she woke up in an unremarkable apartment, flipping through nature channels. She then shares that she approached the first person she encountered, a gardener, to share details about Lumon’s injured employees.
It’s clear to everyone that what Helly is saying isn’t true. In reality, she is a key figure within Lumon, hailing from Eagan. Her lies raise suspicions, and there are several inconsistencies in her narrative that stand out like glaring gaps. Even Irving (John Turturro) finds it questionable that someone was gardening at night, which seems hard to believe.
It’s understandable why he feels that way, considering it was both late at night and the depths of winter when they awoke, with heavy snow covering the ground. Details like these are familiar to Helena, but perhaps not to Helly, who has spent her entire life within the Lumon building.
This poor lie is exactly why I think it is really Helly on the severed floor, not Helena.
Why I Think It Is The Real Helly On The Severed Floor
In the second episode of Season 2, we delve deeper into the character of Helena Eagan. Not only does it become clear that she’s pulling the strings on the upper floor, but as speculated from her reluctance to let Helly resign in Season 1, she appears to be quite strategic and calculating. If she had retained her original name upon entering the upper floor, she likely would have come equipped with a more convincing lie, one that wouldn’t raise red flags.
Despite appearing somewhat flustered, it’s quite possible that Helly was still coming to terms with the recent revelation – she discovered only a short while ago that she is both an Eagan and the spokesperson for severance.
Instead of deceiving, it seems that @jbuckstudios made a valid point in his TikTok video when he stated that revealing her true identity to her fellow refiners would make them fearful and trust would vanish. It’s likely she feels embarrassed and remorseful about her outie’s actions. Any discomfort she experiences, particularly with Mark, may be due to this fresh information.
