Glenn Martens Rumored To Be Maison Margiela’s Next Creative Director

After Glenn Martens left Y/Project last year, there have been many whispers about where he might go next in the world of fashion. It’s thought that the current creative director of Diesel could be the new creative head for Maison Margiela, a position that was recently vacated by John Galliano.

According to an article from WWD, it seems that Renzo Rosso has made contact with Martens regarding potential collaboration, although OTB, Margiela’s parent company, has not yet verified this claim. Since assuming leadership at Diesel in 2020, Rosso has been instrumental in cultivating a dedicated fan base for the brand. Last year, Martens ventured into haute couture as a guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier. Unfortunately, Y/Project is shutting down, but Martens spent over a decade with the label, amassing valuable experience in creating brands that inspire intense loyalty among their followers.

The OTB (Only The Brave) collective encompasses fashion labels like Diesel, Jil Sander, Marni, Viktor & Rolf, and AMIRI as well. Matthias Martens, who was brought on board by Jean Paul Gaultier following his graduation show at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 2008, served as a junior designer for Gaultier’s women’s pre-collection and the G2 men’s brand. Whether the rumors about his future are accurate still remains to be determined.
