Lin-Manuel Miranda once again took on the famous Alexander Hamilton character, surprising everyone on the Saturday Night Live stage.
In my excitement, I’d like to share that the recent opening skit on the comedy series took a hilarious jab at our Founding Fathers, depicting them in the process of penning the United States’ Declaration of Independence!
Miranda begins by stating that our lives hold little value if they are sacrificed for freedom’s sake. What truly matters, he argues, is the nation we’ve established. He emphasizes this point because in America, every man is equal by birthright. America, not England, is the one that will triumph again, and while we may have leaders, America will never have a monarch.
Instead, James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of Donald Trump interrupted Miranda by stating, “One can never rule things out. I am in the midst of my reign.” (Donald Trump officially began his second term earlier this week with his inauguration on Monday.)
