If you’re a fan of upcoming superhero films, particularly Marvel movies, then you probably recognize Hugh Jackman primarily for portraying Wolverine on the big screen over many years. However, it’s important to note that he’s not only a man with claws; he’s also a talented singer and dancer. In light of this, Jackman recently shared his minor criticism about collaborating with Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy on Deadpool & Wolverine. Frankly, it’s difficult not to sympathize with his perspective.
On the inaugural night of Hugh Jackman’s “From New York, With Love” concert series (as reported by People), the 56-year-old performer paused to reminisce about his work on the Marvel blockbuster and his camaraderie with pals Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy. The star of “Swordfish” playfully jabbed at his Marvel co-workers regarding a particular scene in the comic book movie.
The film was remarkably fantastic; I watched it alongside two of my dearest friends, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, who also happened to be the director. Frankly, everything regarding it was nearly flawless. The overall experience was almost perfect. However, there was a minor issue I felt compelled to mention – apologies in advance, Ryan – pertaining to the movie’s opening that featured a dance sequence by Deadpool to an *NSYNC tune. Perhaps you had a chance to catch it?
It appears there was a disagreement regarding the dance sequence at the start of the film. The Australian actor seemed disappointed for not being included in the extravagant dance scene where Deadpool performs a synchronized routine to *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.” Jackman expressed that he didn’t mind not appearing in every frame, but he found it unusual that he and Reynolds, who had many shared scenes throughout the film, didn’t participate in this particular sequence together.
It’s hard not to concur, given that the longtime X-Men franchise actor has undeniably demonstrated his dance skills through his musical projects. Moreover, watching Wolverine show off his dancing abilities would have been quite a spectacle. In fact, it’s evident that the star of _The Greatest Showman_ is skilled at grooving on the dance floor. He further added:
I mean, that’s one area where I kind of — I just have a little bit of experience.
Despite the fact that the actor from Les Misérables didn’t get to display Wolverine’s dance skills on screen, he thrilled fans at Radio City Music Hall by offering them a sneak peek of what they had missed. Using a jump rope, he performed what he referred to as “the lost dance,” an energetic routine that culminated in a mini celebration reminiscent of Wolverine. The performance was met with applause from the audience.
The well-known concert series showcased some of the actor’s hits, such as songs from Les Misérables and The Greatest Showman. To add excitement, Ryan Reynolds unexpectedly made an appearance, demonstrating that their longstanding friendship or playful rivalry continues to be vibrant.
Even though Hugh Jackman’s unexpected performance left us pondering how Wolverine might dance alongside Deadpool, it seems like our wish for such a spectacle may come true someday. If Disney can revive the character of Logan once more, perhaps they could also choreograph a duet between him and Deadpool – the Merc with the Mouth. As the saying goes, “They’ll make him do this until he’s 90,” so who knows what the future holds?
The “Prisoners” act will share “From New York, With Love” with audiences in an additional 23 performances this year, and tickets are currently available for purchase. Meanwhile, enthusiasts can stream the hit movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” on Disney+. Lastly, for those eager to learn about Jackman’s upcoming films, it would be wise to stay updated on the 2025 movie lineup.
