Sonic The Hedgehog 3’s Lee Majdoub Has A Heartwarming Take On Why The Films Are So Well-Received, And I Couldn’t Agree More

The following article contains SPOILERS about Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Beware!

Upon its theater release, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 became a sensation across the board, outpacing Mufasa: The Lion King at the box office during its opening weekend and even prompting an announcement for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. This video game franchise continues to deliver, and Lee Majdoub shares his personal insights on why it’s so widely liked and treasured by fans worldwide.

In the “Sonic” films, Majdoub portrays Agent Stone, aide to the character Dr. Robotnik played by Jim Carrey. Majdoub has been present in all three movies, and with the home video release of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” this week, I had an opportunity to interview him about what he thinks makes the “Sonic” films exceptional. Essentially, his response revolves around the amount of emotion or heart invested into each film, and the relatable storyline they offer:

It’s my belief that our movies are filled with genuine emotion due to their heartfelt nature, and I suspect that the individuals behind the scenes genuinely invest themselves in the project. Growing up, we were all fans of Sonic and Jim Carrey. We all aimed to deliver our best work. Over these three films, I don’t think this dedication has waned. For Jeff and his creative team, it’s been a constant focus: finding the emotional core of the story.

In the course of his discussion about “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, the actor added that every movie carries a tale which resonates with viewers, making them return to cinemas again and again.

Each movie, in my view, presents a unique narrative. The first one portrays Sonic as a fish out of water, searching for his place in the world. In Sonic 2, Knuckles, who is somewhat misguided and under Robotnik’s control, provides an opportunity for Sonic to learn and teach him a different path. Sonic 3 goes deeper by exploring just how far Shadow will go for revenge. Here, we see Sonic grapple with his own anger and thirst for vengeance, which raises interesting questions about the human condition, emotions, grief, and personal growth. This resonates with many people, I believe.

Having grown up enjoying the Sonic movies and finding solace in each installment, I wholeheartedly concur – indeed, on a deeper level, we can all find common ground with these cinematic gems.

Time after time, the Sonic films have been demonstrated to be among the most successful video game movie adaptations. The continual production of sequels is a clear indication that audiences hold a deep affection for them. Majdoub’s analysis only strengthens this belief and leaves me curious about what captivating story they will unveil next.

Currently, we’re unsure about what lies ahead in Sonic’s realm. The post-credit scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 brought a significant surprise for many fans and team members, as Amy Rose made her appearance there. In fact, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Tails’ voice actress, expressed her enthusiasm about the team dynamic with Amy Rose joining the cast in the anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

The release date for the next movie isn’t until March 19, 2027, and the storyline hasn’t been decided yet. However, one thing is certain: whatever the movies end up being about, they’ll undoubtedly have heart, and we’ll continue to go see them.
