Known for inflicting self-harm during his own stunts, action and martial arts legend Jackie Chan teamed up with another self-injury enthusiast, “Jackass” star Johnny Knoxville, for the upcoming buddy cop action comedy “Skiptrace.” Directed by Renny Harlin, who has worked on movies like “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger,” “Skiptrace” brings together Chan and Knoxville after a Hong Kong detective partners with an American gambler to apprehend a criminal mastermind. The movie will hit Max next month.
The film titled “Skiptrace,” penned by Jay Longino and BenDavid Grabinski, was led by Fan Bingbing, Eve Torres, Eric Tsang, Winston Chao, Yeon Jung-hoon in addition to Chan and Knoxville. Released in 2016, “Skiptrace” didn’t quite meet the mark with critics, earning a less-than-stellar rating of 38% on Rotten Tomatoes and an even more unfavorable score of 27 from viewers on Popcornmeter.
Even though it may not rank among Jackie Chan’s most adored action films, “Skiptrace” remains a worthwhile watch for his fans, who can catch it on Max starting February 1. Fans of both Chan and Knoxville are bound to appreciate their dynamic duo as they dive headfirst into the action, seemingly unfazed by the potential physical toll at the end of the day.
Jackie Chan Will Team-up With a ‘Cobra Kai’ Legend for This Year’s ‘Karate Kid’ Sequel
Regrettably, “Skiptrace” didn’t quite reach the level of success associated with the action star’s most famous buddy cop series, “Rush Hour”. Fans are still eagerly waiting for Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker to reprise their roles in a fourth installment. However, it seems that the production of “Rush Hour 4” may be delayed due to director Brett Ratner’s involvement. There are reports suggesting that the studio is hesitant about collaborating with Ratner again as he was initially linked to the project as a potential director and producer, despite having been out of Hollywood for seven years following allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment in 2017.
This year, Jackie Chan will be working alongside Ralph Macchio’s character Daniel LaRusso in the film Karate Kid: Legends. A young kung fu prodigy named Li (Ben Wang) is at the center of their collaboration. Following a family tragedy, Li and his mother are forced to relocate from Beijing to New York City. However, when a friend requires assistance, Li decides to participate in a karate competition. Despite his exceptional kung fu skills, he soon realizes that they aren’t sufficient. In response, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) seeks the help of the original Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), to teach Li an alternative fighting technique. By blending their two martial arts styles, they prepare for a remarkable final battle in martial arts.
Jonathan Entwistle, renowned for his work on “I’m Not Okay with This” and “The End of the F***ing World”, will direct “Karate Kid: Legends”. This movie will unite the various Karate Kid series and capitalize on the popularity of Netflix’s “Cobra Kai”. The script is penned by Rob Lieber, who has worked on Sony’s “Peter Rabbit” and Disney’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day”. The main cast includes Jackie Chan as Mr. Han, Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, and Ben Wang as Li Fong. The rest of the cast consists of Joshua Jackson, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, and Jennifer-Lyn Christie. “Karate Kid: Legends” is set to premiere in theaters on May 30, 2025.
