Bong Joon-ho’s groundbreaking film “Parasite,” which won the Best Picture Oscar in 2019, is making its way back to theaters in an IMAX format to celebrate its fifth anniversary. This special re-release promises a unique and immersive viewing experience for fans.

It’s understandable why there’s excitement about re-releasing classic movies, such as Interstellar and Se7en, given their recent success. This is particularly true when these releases coincide with significant anniversaries. As the way films perform at the box office changes over time, it’s clear that familiar titles can find success again, and this becomes even more likely when they are re-released in premium formats like IMAX.

On February 7th, IMAX officially announces the return of the movie “Parasite” to the big screen. Their post says, “Avoid tumbling down the stairs while rushing for the IMAX special re-release of Parasite! Tickets are available now.” This link is provided to buy tickets. The timing is significant because it coincides with the fifth anniversary of “Parasite” winning multiple Oscars, such as Best Picture and Best Director for Joon-ho. Additionally, this re-release happens just a few days before his upcoming film, “Mickey 17,” has its London premiere on February 13th.

Under the direction of Joon-ho, who collaborated with Han Jin-won on the script, the movie titled “Parasite” tells the story of a struggling family that finds themselves in a precarious situation when they cross paths with a wealthy family. The consequences are disastrous for all involved. The film features an impressive cast including Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Jang Hye-jin, Park Myung-hoon, and Lee Jung-eun. The story is derived from a play that Joon-ho started writing in 2013 and later transformed into a film. Currently, it boasts an outstanding 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Moreover, it made history by becoming the inaugural non-English language movie to win the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
