Did you know Zahan Kapoor initially turned down audition for Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘life-changing’ Black Warrant? Here’s why

Currently, Zahan Kapoor is enjoying the limelight following the release of his latest web series, Black Warrant, on Netflix. In a recent chat, the actor confessed that at first, he declined the audition for Vikramaditya Motwane’s show because he was engrossed in working on his stage play.

During a Zoom conversation, Zahan Kapoor reminisced about receiving a phone call from Mukesh Chhabara’s office. He mentioned that one of their associates, Bheem, had informed him about the show being adapted from the book Black Warrant, which was written jointly by former jailer Sunil Gupta and author Sunetra Choudhury.

Despite this, he clarified that he was in the midst of premiering his play titled “Siachen” at the time, just three days before its opening night. He expressed that he would be thrilled to try out, but admitted he wasn’t in the right mental state for it then. Later, he was granted an extension of about a week to 10 days, during which he read the book on Kindle prior to his audition.

Initially, Zahan wasn’t certain if he would secure the role. He mentioned that after the initial couple of weeks, there was no response, but subsequently, he received a call from the production team expressing their wish to cast him. Consequently, he returned for another audition and eventually got a call saying that director Vikramaditya Motwane wished to meet him.

He admitted feeling extremely anxious when he visited the filmmaker’s office for the first time. “I could hardly contain myself as I blurted out, ‘Let me start by saying how much of a fan I am. I’m absolutely thrilled!’ Even after that, I was still left wondering, ‘Is it finished then?’ He didn’t even give me a definitive answer. All he said was, ‘We’ll have to wait and see,'” he explained.

It turned out that the director had already made up his mind about Zahan after their initial audition, a fact he wasn’t aware of. Looking back on his time working on the show, Zahan couldn’t help but feel thankful and exclaimed, “It’s been nothing short of life-altering.

He emphasized the delight in working with exceptional individuals and underscored the strength of teamwork. He explained how their commitment, hard work, and perseverance demonstrated the essence of collaboration in creating something extraordinary. In summary, he expressed that it had been an outstanding journey in this regard.
