FBI: Most Wanted Boss Talks ‘Accountability’ In The Season 6 Winter Premiere, And It Could Get Messy For Nina

In the upcoming winter premiere of FBI: Most Wanted, titled “Moving On,” the Fugitive Task Force won’t be taking it easy as they prepare for the 2025 TV schedule. Agent Nina, in particular, will find herself juggling a heavy workload. A string of lethal fires is linked to the 1985 MOVE bombing in Philadelphia, while Nina’s sister seeks her help during a difficult time, despite their strained relationship earlier in the season. Executive producer David Hudgins hinted that the CBS winter premiere will focus on “accountability” regarding this case.

In 1985, a significant incident took place in Philadelphia where the police force detonated bombs on homes inhabited by MOVE, a Black liberation group. This event happened over three decades ago amidst conflicts with this organization. When members refused to vacate their home, two bombs were dropped onto the roof. The subsequent fire that ensued spread uncontrollably, causing several casualties and extensive damage.

In the episode titled “Moving On,” airing on January 28, the fires will be aimed at the relatives of those responsible for the bombing that occurred long ago. Being unaware of the MOVE bombing incident in 1985, I posed this question to the showrunner: why did you consider it an appropriate tragedy for Most Wanted to explore as we begin 2025? He replied:

“The decision to delve into the MOVE bombing was made due to its historical significance and its continued relevance in today’s society. The incident raises important questions about race, justice, and police brutality that are still relevant today. By exploring this event, we hope to shed light on these issues and spark conversations among our viewers.

We found it an intriguing tale that emphasized accountability and dealing with the past, which appeared to align nicely with Nina’s narrative.

The upcoming episode, penned by veteran writer/producer D. Dona Le and directed by longtime director Jon Cassar (who has also worked on shows like Law & Order and One Chicago within Dick Wolf’s TV Universe), will reportedly focus on the theme of accountability, with a connection to Nina’s narrative.

As a film enthusiast, I must clarify that just because Nina might not have any direct links to the MOVE bombing from nearly three decades ago, it doesn’t mean there’s no connection at all. In fact, when her sister Tink (portrayed by Hannah Adrian in Season 6) reaches out during a difficult time, Nina, who’s always ready to lend a helping hand, doesn’t hesitate to respond. The showrunner gave us a sneak peek into how open Nina is to Tink’s overture, considering their past differences that occurred back in the autumn.

Nina and Tink share a bond that’s distinct from their familial tie as sisters. Much like other siblings, their connection is profound and hard to sever. Despite having different perspectives on life, they support each other whenever possible.

In Episode 3 (streaming now on Paramount+), it appears that Nina has no issues with breaking away from her father. However, this doesn’t necessarily imply she’ll do the same with her sister. Fans will soon witness the consequences of this choice for the agent. As for whether the storyline will delve into her relationship with her father, time will tell. Creator David Hudgins explains why the winter premiere is an ideal moment to re-explore Nina’s family history beyond her immediate family: a deeper look at her extended relatives.

We hadn’t visited Nina’s personal storyline in a while and the timing felt right.

Shantel VanSanten is set to appear on the winter premiere of FBI, prior to her role in Most Wanted. Co-star John Boyd has nothing but good words for his co-star during their Scolina relationship. Tune in to CBS on January 28th at 10 p.m. ET to see how FBI: Most Wanted intertwines Nina’s storyline with a case regarding the 1985 MOVE bombing, seeking justice. This will follow FBI: International (airing at 9 p.m. ET due to Vo’s cliffhanger) and FBI, where Scola continues his search for a permanent partner starting at 8 p.m. ET.

You can also revisit earlier episodes of all three shows streaming on Paramount+ now.
