The much-anticipated collaboration between Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was unveiled in the blockbuster movie Deadpool & Wolverine, offering fans the anarchic, R-rated showdown they had been eagerly waiting for, complete with their trademark friendship-rivalry. From the very first trailer, Marvel enthusiasts were elated to see Jackman donning the classic yellow and blue suit, but some felt that something was amiss – the absence of Wolverine’s signature cowl. Although he wore it in the climax, many wished it had been part of his appearance throughout the film. Yet, thanks to ingenious fans and the wonders of the internet, we now have a sneak peek at what might have been. And Reynolds’ response? Honestly, I share his feelings.
Reynolds took to his Instagram stories to share a fan edit that digitally inserts Wolverine’s iconic cowl into the first major fight scene of the movie between him and the Merc with a Mouth. The Free Guy star added some cheeky commentary, writing, “What if there was a cowl? Too late to reshoot?” You can take a look at the pic below.
It’s clear that Reynolds’ response was playful, and even the most faithful adaptations can’t satisfy everyone. The Logan suit portrayed in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has been one of the closest to the comic version so far. Introducing the cowl at the beginning might have enhanced the initial fight scene, but it would have also deprived us of that memorable moment – Wolverine removing his cowl as he faced an army of Deadpools. To be honest, that scene is a perfect example of cinema. No room for improvement.
Although Deadpool and Wolverine didn’t have Hugh Jackman in his cowl throughout the entire movie, there’s a chance he could reprise the iconic role again. There’s talk that Disney and Marvel Studios are planning to capitalize on the success of Deadpool 3, and if the whispers are true, we might see this beloved pair back on screen before too long.
It’s quite plausible that Marvel intends to capitalize on the success of the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, given its extraordinary box office earnings and universal acclaim from both critics and audiences. The film’s unique multiverse concept and time-bending antics suggest there could be a sequel in the works. Might we expect a Deadpool & Wolverine 2? Perhaps even a Secret Wars collaboration? Or maybe a Deadpool-led reboot of the X-Men franchise? At this stage, anything seems feasible.
Not only that, but it’s worth noting Marvel has always enjoyed seeing characters’ costumes evolve over time. For instance, observe how Spider-Man’s suits transformed throughout the MCU and how Captain America (Sam Wilson)’s costume was modified between “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series and the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World.” If Jackman reappears, it’s possible the studio will go even further in terms of accuracy to the comics that fans have been yearning for. This could potentially involve Wolverine donning his complete cowl from beginning to end.
It’s important to note that there hasn’t been any official confirmation, but the actor from The Greatest Showman who played Wolverine has mentioned before that this would be his final appearance as the character, similar to what he said after Logan. However, given the enthusiasm of fans and rumors about Marvel Studios wanting to leverage Deadpool 3’s success, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see Hugh Jackman reprising the role once more.
