Ahead Of FBI: International Resolving Vo’s Cliffhanger, Vinessa Vidotto Talks Filming That Bloody Fall Finale Sequence: ‘I Think I Might Be Dying’

Anticipation for the outcome of Vo’s character in FBI: International has been agonizingly prolonged during the winter break before its 2025 TV schedule resumption. The cliffhanger from the fall finale in 2024, where Vo was shot and her survival seemed uncertain, has left fans on edge. Fortunately, the winter premiere airing on January 28, titled “The Kill Floor,” will hopefully reveal Vo’s fate… whether it’s good news or bad. However, a new challenge arises as the team pursues Greg Csonka in their ongoing investigation.

Discussing the unexpected nature of Vo’s injury, leading actress Vinessa Vidotto reminisced about filming the intense, gory scene, explaining how immersed she became in her research that it seemed as if she was on the brink of expiring.

In 2024, Vinessa Vidotto filmed the last episode unaware of Vo’s destiny. However, she joined the rest of the cast to watch the fall finale, describing it as a “thrilling” event. (The episode is currently streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.) Before the winter return, I inquired about her feelings seeing herself portraying a character as close to death as Vo following a shooting. She divulged:

In my anticipation, I had researched about the immediate response when one gets shot, not focusing on how people react when they are dying or have been shot, but rather on the initial reaction after being shot. Interestingly, a documentary I watched revealed that reactions to being shot or stabbed vary greatly; there’s no single definitive response. Some individuals might experience an intense, searing pain within three seconds, accompanied by sweating and screaming, while others may not feel anything immediately or at all. This knowledge was intriguing as it underscores the fact that there’s no ‘right’ way to react in such situations.

From the completed scene, it appears Vinessa Vidotto chose a moderate expression of pain for Vo after getting shot. Instead of screaming, her character showed signs of intense discomfort through heavy breathing and sweating. Unfortunately, Vo couldn’t get immediate medical attention; she was first pulled to safety by Wes, then had to endure the wait for an ambulance. Vidotto later explained her approach to portraying Vo’s pain in greater detail.

Instead of directly asking about specific physical reactions, you could phrase your questions more indirectly: “What should be my response to indicate that I am in a critical state? Should I appear as if I’m losing consciousness? Should I close my eyes or seem to struggle with breathing? Is there a way to suggest that I might be having trouble breathing and my eyes are rolling back? In essence, could I convey that I think I’m dying?

The final episode of the fall season concluded without disclosing if Vo would follow in Kellett’s footsteps and recover from being shot in FBI: International Season 1, meet a similar fate as Jess on FBI: Most Wanted, or explore another possibility. However, it’s clear that the character was in dire straits according to Vidotto’s statement.

In a somewhat dramatic yet honest manner, I found myself giving the impression that I was on the brink of death during filming. [laughs] It seems odd to put it this way, but I felt like I might be expiring myself! [laughs] I was really selling the act, and my sister, who’s my roommate and assistant, was there. She saw me get shot on set that day. She started crying because she thought I genuinely looked like I was dying. She’s always been my biggest supporter, but she might be a little biased. I hope the authenticity of my performance came across.

It’s clear that Vidotto’s portrayal was so convincing, it made her sister cry about Vo’s storyline in the autumn. The actress herself praised both the hair and makeup teams for their expertise in making her appear genuinely unwell by stating “They have a knack for this – I looked ill.

It’s yet uncertain how unwell character Vo will appear in the upcoming winter premiere. CBS seems to be closely guarding any footage from the episode, but a brief glimpse suggests that the rest of the Fly Team is anxiously waiting for updates about his condition.

Instead of having The Fly Team confined to a hospital during the winter premiere while waiting on Vo, they will pursue Greg Csonka to Paris in the opening episode of 2025. Unfortunately, another member of the Fly Team will also disappear, making the situation extremely tense and critical.

Don’t miss me out on CBS this coming Tuesday, January 28, at 9 p.m. ET! That’s where you’ll find the winter premiere of “FBI: International“. Before that, catch up with “FBI” as it delves into Scola’s significant setback at 8 p.m. ET, and later, hold on tight for an intense episode of “FBI: Most Wanted” where things get complicated for Nina at 10 p.m. ET. If you can’t catch them live, don’t worry! Earlier episodes of all three shows are readily available for streaming on Paramount+. Enjoy the ride!
