Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers are now ready to offer their take on culture in their debut book.
The stars behind the popular “Las Culturistas” podcast are ready to debut their inaugural book titled “The Rules of Culture, Volume 1“. According to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter, this will be their first literary endeavor.
I tried to keep the structure similar while making it more conversational and easy to read.
The book by Yang and Rogers is described as a “manifesto on culture” and a “Guinness World Records Book” specifically for the queer community and straight women who understand this culture. This book will contain 100 “insightful, funny, and unchangeable rules that dictate modern culture in its diverse and fragmented state.”
The book written by Yang and Rogers is a guide to understanding contemporary culture from a unique perspective, catering to queer individuals and straight women who are familiar with this culture. It includes 100 insightful, funny, and unchanging rules that explain the current fragmented state of culture.
Culture, like a broken mirror on the ground, is what we’re trying to piece back together in this book. We believe that culture belongs to each individual, it’s about you, it’s about us, and it’s for everyone,” stated Yang and Rogers.
In 2023, it was announced that Andy Cohen’s first book acquisition under his own imprint at Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House, would be “The Rules of Culture, Volume 1”. Previously, Cohen’s imprint, Andy Cohen Books, was part of Macmillan’s Henry Holt imprint and was launched in 2020. Since then, it has been rebranded under the supervision of Crown Publishing Group’s senior vice president and publisher Gillian Blake. Notable titles published under this imprint include “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” and “Not All Diamonds and Rose: The Inside Story of the Real Housewives from the People Who Lived It”.
Cohen praised Bowen and Matt, stating that they offer unique viewpoints on various aspects of culture. He added that their enthusiasm and wit will result in an outstanding publication.
Yang and Rogers present the “Las Culturistas” podcast, a humorous platform for them to analyze significant pop culture events and personal cultural encounters that shaped them into enthusiasts or connoisseurs of culture.
The “Las Culturistas” podcast, which started eight years ago on Will Ferrell’s Big Money Players network and iHeartRadio, has garnered several prestigious awards including the Signal Award, GLAAD Media Award, and iHeartRadio Award for Podcast of the Year. After achieving great success with their podcast, Yang and Rogers have hosted an annual live Las Culturistas Culture Awards ceremony.
Initially, the awards show was just a humorous topic on their podcast. However, it turned into a real event when New York’s Lincoln Center offered them the opportunity to host it in Damrosch Park. The ceremony features categories that Yang and Rogers have created, such as Record of the Year and the Cate Blanchett Award for Excellent Acting.
For the past two years, the event was held at Lincoln Center, attracting around 2,600 participants. However, last year’s edition shifted its location to Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre.
3 Arts Entertainment represents both Yang and Rogers, with Olivia Gerke handling their representation. The book deal was finalized by Richard Abate at the same agency.
The Rules of Culture, Volume 1 will release in 2026.
