Porsche Taycan GTS Sets Guinness World Record for Longest Ice Drift

Porsche’s Taycan collection earned another prestigious title by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest uninterrupted drift on ice by an electric vehicle. Jens Richter, a Porsche Experience coach, skillfully navigated 132 laps in a controlled oversteer using a Taycan GTS, covering a distance of 17.503 kilometers in 46 minutes at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland.

On January 14, 2025, Richter’s record-breaking attempt wasn’t free from difficulties. The extreme pressure of drifting quickly caused the 59-meter ice track to weaken significantly, causing a premature stop during the initial try after covering 11 kilometers. But, by adjusting to shorter spikes and utilizing the cold temperatures at night for better traction, Richter skillfully guided the Taycan GTS through an effortless drift, shattering the previous record of 14.809 kilometers.

Jens Richter stated that this accomplishment emphasizes how remarkable the Taycan’s chassis and balance are, as it demonstrated its precision under demanding situations.

Under the watchful eye of Carl Saville, a Guinness World Records adjudicator, the record was authenticated utilizing a top-notch GPS tracking system. This system tracked details such as distance traveled, throttle usage, steering angles, and G-forces. Notably, the Taycan GTS was kept in its original setup, equipped with Michelin tires that had 1mm spikes.

The Taycan has now set its fourth Guinness World Record, previously achieving recognition for the fastest time to climb a hill, quickest speed within an indoor structure, and longest duration of continuous drifting on asphalt.
