Fans of Daredevil have received confirmation that the upcoming MCU series will be the darkest and most violent Marvel show to air on Disney+ yet. Although many Marvel shows are family-friendly, some like Echo have moved towards a more mature tone. In the U.S., the revival of Daredevil has been given a TV-MA rating, while its British rating hints at how far Marvel Studios is willing to push the limits for this series.
To provide some background, the earlier version of Daredevil, broadcasted on Netflix under Marvel Television until 2019, wasn’t your typical series that catered to the family-friendly PG-13 standards of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, Marvel Studios chose to create a universe of interconnected stories suitable for everyone. However, the Netflix Defenders Saga, including shows like Jessica Jones and Daredevil, was more realistic and mature, receiving TV-MA ratings in the U.S. and equivalent 16+ ratings in Britain. The Punisher stood out with its 18+ rating due to its explicit violence. But until now, that was the exception.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast and die-hard Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about “Daredevil: Born Again.” It’s been announced that this upcoming series is only the second Marvel Comics Universe (MCU) production to receive an 18+ rating. This is a groundbreaking move for the MCU, and it comes hot on the heels of the captivating trailer release.
I must admit, there were whispers of doubt about how the character would be portrayed. But with this announcement, all those fears have been laid to rest. It’s clear that the creators are treating Daredevil, our gritty Hell’s Kitchen vigilante, with the respect he deserves. Moreover, the fact that they’re even considering a comeback for him after years of absence is nothing short of miraculous!
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Has Evolved Into What Could Be Marvel’s Biggest Series
Fans have eagerly anticipated the moment when Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk would meet again in a fresh setting, often questioning if it would ever materialize. Even after Kingpin made his MCU debut in Hawkeye and Murdock appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, there were lingering doubts about how a new Daredevil project could fit within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Initially, plans indicated that Daredevil’s new version would break away from the Netflix series, which didn’t feel right for fans, or apparently Kevin Feige. However, during pre-production, there were significant changes. Previous cast members reappeared, plotlines were revised, and as a result, confidence in Daredevil: Born Again honoring its title was renewed.
Initially, MCU enthusiasts are looking forward to “Captain America: Brave New World,” but promotions for “Daredevil: Born Again” have already started, causing excitement among fans. There’s still a chance that some surprise appearances might occur from ex-Netflix stars like Krysten Ritter, who often hints at her wish to reprise her popular role as Jessica Jones. As for other former Netflix Marvel characters and shows, only Jon Bernthal’s return as The Punisher in the new series is confirmed. However, it seems that more mature comic book stories are on their way to join Marvel Studios’ collection in the near future.
