The new chapter for “Wheel of Fortune” persists in the 2025 television schedule, yet viewers find it challenging to adapt following Pat Sajak’s retirement last year. Although Ryan Seacrest took over as host, the transition hasn’t been seamless. Moreover, whispers about turmoil behind the scenes haven’t helped Seacrest gain trust from fans, and another mistake has left viewers unforgiving.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I’ve had the privilege of hosting numerous shows, from the entire run of American Idol, my own radio show, E! News, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, and more. Yet, stepping into the role for Wheel of Fortune has been a unique experience. This iconic show has been on our screens almost as long as I’ve been alive. Taking over from a cherished host who is undeniably one of the greatest game show hosts ever is no small task. Since my first episode aired in September, there have been a few hiccups, like the recent one where I forgot to instruct a contestant to discard the Wild Card after going bankrupt.
A fan questioned on the WOF Reddit forum why Seacrest failed to remind them to discard the card, noting that he’s been forgetting this quite often in recent episodes and suggesting a comparison to Sajak. This sparked many discussions about Seacrest’s hosting, with people criticizing him for not reminding a player to call a letter before they solve during the final round when time is running low or his method of revealing the bonus money.
Pat Sajak has been the host of “Wheel of Fortune” for 41 seasons and is deeply cherished by fans. It’s not surprising that fans find it hard to accept Ryan Seacrest as his replacement since he’s relatively new. However, with time, Seacrest might get more comfortable with hosting “Wheel”. It should be noted that even after 41 seasons, Sajak made occasional mistakes. Additionally, Seacrest is involved in multiple other projects, which means his attention might not always be fully on “Wheel”. Therefore, fans may need to remain patient as Seacrest settles into his new role.
At a minimum, Sajak isn’t leaving “Wheel of Fortune” forever. He appeared in a delightful behind-the-scenes video marking the show’s 50th anniversary. Additionally, he has hosted “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” one last time before his complete retirement. For now, Seacrest is expected to step in for the spinoff, but for the present, viewers can anticipate Sajak continuing to host it.
It’s uncertain whether viewers will grow accustomed to Seacrest and stop scrutinizing every move he makes on Wheel of Fortune. Despite whispers about Sajak potentially reconsidering his retirement decision, Seacrest appears to be holding his own in the role. For now, there’s no sign that he plans to leave, so we can expect him to stay for an undetermined period.
