Mira Sorvino, Lisa Kudrow in Final Talks for ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’ Sequel (Exclusive)

The reunion is on.

A follow-up to “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” is progressing at 20th Century Studios, and Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are in talks to return for the leading parts. They will additionally act as executive producers of this upcoming project.

Tim Federle, known for writing and directing the Disney+ original movie “Better Nate Than Ever” and creating “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” will take on directing duties for an upcoming project, aiming to commence filming in June. Reports suggest that the studio is considering Los Angeles as a potential location for shooting, though no official decisions have been made yet.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that Robin Schiff, the brilliant mind behind the creation and showrunning of the Netflix sensation Emily in Paris, has penned the sequel. Joining her once again as a veteran producer is none other than Laurence Mark, who brought the original to life. Barry Kemp, renowned for his work on the 1980s series Newhart, is also stepping into production this time around. This powerhouse team promises another enchanting chapter in Emily’s Parisian adventures!

The movie initially produced in 1997 was created under Disney’s now defunct Touchstone Pictures label. Therefore, shifting it to Disney’s 20th Century Fox division is more of a move within the studio rather than a long journey.

In this film, Sorvino and Kudrow play two individuals, aged 29, who lack accomplishments. Desperate to leave an impression at their high school’s 10-year reunion, they invent fictitious successful careers. The style, humor, and tunes of the movie resonated strongly with a specific generation, earning it cult status and warm recollections.

Previously recognized with an Oscar for her role in “Mighty Aphrodite,” Sorvino graced the screen just two years prior to “Romy and Michele.” More recently, she has joined forces with Courtney Cox and Greg Kinnear on Starz’s spooky series “Shining Vale.” She also made an appearance in Ryan Murphy’s latest projects, “Impeachment: American Crime Story” and “Hollywood.” Represented by IAG and Circle Management + Production.

As a gamer, I’ve been keeping up with my favorite actress, Lisa Kudrow. You might recognize her from the hit show “Friends.” Recently, she made an appearance on the TV series “Time Bandits” and teamed up with Ray Romano for the Netflix series “No Good Deed.” She’s represented by CAA – quite the busy lady in Hollywood!

Federle, the author of the book that inspired “Better Nate,” is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Magnet Management, and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein, whereas Schiff is represented by William Morris Endeavor Entertainment (WME).
