Doctor Strange’s MCU Return Confirmed in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

The Doctor Strange actor initially claimed to not appear in the upcoming MCU event movie, but has since retracted his statement, admitting that he made an error.

Previously, Benedict Cumberbatch was among several high-profile actors assigned to keep other cast members from disclosing sensitive information during interviews. However, it appeared that Cumberbatch may have been swayed towards secrecy’s dark side when he inadvertently spilled the beans about his sorcerer character missing the upcoming Avengers film, but appearing in Secret Wars. During a red carpet event for his new movie, The Thing with Feathers, Cumberbatch backtracked on his earlier statement, telling Business Insider that his previous comments were incorrect.

I got that wrong, I am in the next one.

It seems we’ve reached an agreement, but upon further inquiry, he mentioned, “Never take anything I say as truth.” So, could Sherlock himself be spinning tales? Indeed, it’s plausible, even likely. Given his experience with deception, it wouldn’t be unusual for the actor to subtly sway between responses, leaving us guessing about what’s fact and what’s mere enchantment that would make Doctor Strange nod in approval.

Doctor Strange Will Return to the MCU

Is it more a matter of when rather than if we’ll see Doctor Strange back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Although the precise timeline is still uncertain, various speculations suggest he might show up in Avengers: Doomsday, or perhaps in a third standalone film dedicated to him.

In the mid-credits scene of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” I was spotted by Clea, a newcomer to the MCU played by Charlize Theron. She urged me to accompany her to handle an incursion – a rift between universes. Speculations ran high that this would pave the way for my third standalone film. However, with some unannounced movies on Marvel’s schedule before “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027, there’s a possibility that the incursion could be connected to the entrance of the Fantastic Four and/or Doctor Doom into the MCU, potentially marking the climax of the Multiverse Saga.

As Cumberbatch appears increasingly muddled, switching stories so that it’s unclear which version is true, we find ourselves in a position where we can’t determine the veracity of his statements. This leaves us struggling to develop substantial theories, but with over a year until Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters, fans are sure to speculate wildly on social media. For now, enthusiasts of Strange can revisit his past escapades and delve into the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe archive on Disney+.
