Comedy legend and Hollywood star, , is ready to re-enter the action comedy genre, but not as Beverly Hills Cop’s Axel Foley this time. Instead, Murphy will take on the lead role in the original action adventure Blue Falcon. In this story, the voice of Shrek transforms into a Bond-like character, where he plays a retired spy who gets drawn into peril while attending his son’s wedding.
As reported by Deadline, the project titled “Blue Falcon” is now under Sony Pictures’ ownership and will be a two-hander action comedy. The anticipation for this film is growing due to Eddie Murphy‘s portrayal of a retired spy. If that doesn’t pique your interest in the upcoming action escapades, you should know that Chad St. John, who has previously written action thrillers like “Peppermint” starring Jennifer Garner and the sequel “London Has Fallen” led by Gerard Butler, is behind the script for Blue Falcon. He is also responsible for the upcoming film “Motor City,” featuring Alan Ritchson from Reacher.
Under the banner of Davis Films, John Davis and Cliff Roberts from Syndicate Entertainment, along with Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster from Eddie Murphy Productions, are set to produce the film titled “Blue Falcon”. Here’s a glimpse of its plot in the action comedy genre that you can read below.
At Blue Falcon, Murphy is cast as an ex-spy who attends his son’s destination wedding. However, he unexpectedly crosses paths with his longtime adversary.
Last Year, Eddie Murphy Returned to His Most Beloved Action-Comedy Franchise
After my critically acclaimed portrayal in the 2019 biographical comedy “Dolemite Is My Name,” I’ve since taken on various comedic roles, such as reprising my character in “Coming 2 America,” sharing laughter with viewers in the Netflix romantic comedy “You People,” and spreading holiday cheer in “Candy Cane Lane.” However, these ventures were all preludes to my grand return as none other than Detroit detective Axel Foley in last year’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” As a movie enthusiast, I couldn’t be more thrilled about this comeback!
Under the direction of Mark Molloy and with a screenplay penned by Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten, the film titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F features Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Bronson Pinchot, and Paul Reiser reprising their iconic roles. The rest of the ensemble includes Taylour Paige from Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Joseph Gordon-Levitt known for his work in Looper and The Dark Knight Rises, Mark Pellegrino recognized from Mulholland Drive and Supernatural, and the versatile Kevin Bacon, who has appeared in films such as Footloose and Tremors.
In the long-anticipated sequel to the original series, Axel Foley is drawn back into police work in Beverly Hills when his daughter’s life is endangered. This time, he joins forces with Jane and a new partner, as well as old friends Billy Rosewood and John Taggart, to ramp up the investigation and expose a sinister plot. The movie, titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, was released on Netflix last year and received much higher acclaim than its previous installment, Beverly Hills Cop 3. Critics and viewers alike have given the action sequel a strong approval rating of 67% and 76%, while the earlier film’s ratings of 10% and 35% pale in comparison.
In addition to Blue Falcon, Eddie Murphy will once again team up with Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz when he returns to the character of Donkey in Shrek 5, scheduled for release on December 23, 2026.
