It’s been a couple of years since Ben Affleck and Matt Damon last appeared together on screen in 2023’s movie “Air”. However, their reunion is imminent this year as they team up once more for the Netflix thriller “RIP”. Directed by Joe Carnahan, known for “The Grey” and “Bad Boys for Life”, this film is based on real events and is expected to be a high-octane drama that explores the extreme lengths people will go to for financial gain.
Today at the 2025 Next on Netflix Special Presentation held in Los Angeles (as reported by People), Ben Affleck was present to provide a sneak peek at the film “RIP”. This movie also features Teyana Taylor, known for her role in “Coming 2 America”, and Sasha Calle, recognized from “The Flash”. Affleck expressed that this is the seventh movie his company, Artists Equity, has produced, and in many ways, it’s the most significant for them. He shared this sentiment with a group of spectators.
We’ve discovered some truly enthusiastic collaborators who are intrigued not only by our past successes but also by the possibilities for the future at Netflix. This is precisely the type of movie that we are eager to support and help bring to life.
In the movie, titled RIP, we follow a group of Miami police officers whose trust in each other starts to unravel when they discover a large sum of money hidden away in an abandoned building. As the news of this massive seizure spreads, everyone’s loyalty is put to the test – leaving them uncertain about who they can depend on. The initial scene from the film (shown below in its entirety) depicts a rough-looking Damon and Affleck as two cops questioning someone, and according to Affleck himself, this movie will undoubtedly keep viewers guessing.
This is an entertaining, captivating journey that leaves you on the edge of your seat, as it presents a complex, intriguing human story that subtly echoes classic cinematic elements cherished by many.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Have Been Making Movie Magic Together for Years
In Cambridge, Massachusetts, Damon and Affleck first encountered each other as neighbors. Over time, they developed a strong friendship, and during their initial stages, appeared together in a few movies like “Field of Dreams” and “School Ties”. However, it was with the movie “Good Will Hunting” that they truly made their mark. They were rewarded for their work on this screenplay with an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Interestingly, Damon himself received a nomination for Best Actor, but ultimately lost to Jack Nicholson in that category.
After that, Damon and Affleck have starred in several films together, most of which were directed by Kevin Smith. Their first collaboration outside of Smith’s direction in nearly 25 years – the historical drama The Last Duel from 2021 – received positive reviews from both audiences and critics, despite a disappointing box office revenue of only $30 million compared to its $100 million budget. The film Air brought them back into the spotlight in 2023, as it highlighted their knack for creating cinematic magic once more, garnering them numerous awards.
It’s yet to be determined if “RIP” will match the success of some of their other films, but considering its compelling theme and the skillful portrayal of dramatic roles by Damon and Affleck, it could easily soar to the top upon release. Anticipate its Netflix premiere this fall, but in the interim, don’t miss out on “Air”, available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video right now.
