‘Late Night with the Devil’ Producers Tackling Adaptation of Scott Snyder Comic ‘Dungeon’ (Exclusive)

Steven Schneider and Roy Lee’s firm, Spooky Pictures, has collaborated with IDW Entertainment to transform the chilling horror comic “Dungeon” penned by Scott Snyder and Hayden Sherman into a project.

Schneider, Lee, and Daniel Kendrick from IDW Entertainment (IDW Publishing’s screen division) will be responsible for creating the adaptation.

The comics industry has seen Snyder and Sherman rise to prominence, now recognized as leading figures. Notably, Snyder, an established comics writer, is penning the highly-anticipated Absolute Batman for DC, with its release breaking records as the best-selling comic of 2024. Meanwhile, Sherman’s illustrations are gracing the pages of Absolute Wonder Woman, another blockbuster launch that required multiple printings due to high demand.

In 2023 and 2024, this five-issue miniseries was released, with the narrative commencing as a family decides to relocate from bustling New York City to tranquil upstate New York for a peaceful life. Regrettably, their father’s serene rural dream is disrupted when he unearths an underground dungeon on their property, replete with instruments of torture, weapons, and a chilling warning inscribed on the wall: “Tell No One.” This unsettling discovery triggers a perplexing serial kidnapping mystery where no one, not even family members or the FBI agent assigned to the case, can guarantee safety.

Steven Schneider from Spooky said, ‘There’s an abundance of serial killer stories out there, but the difficulty lies in finding one that’s not only genuinely frightening, but also ventures into uncharted territories.’ And that’s exactly what Dungeon delivers.

Moving on, he commented, “Even as veterans of this genre, we were deeply troubled by what we encountered. This feels like our equivalent of ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘Se7en’.

Schneider has a deep understanding of horror genre, having been involved in the production of movies like Insidious and Paranormal Activity. He also served as an executive producer for several films directed by M. Night Shyamalan, including The Visit, Split, Knock at the Cabin, and Trap.

In the previous year, he collaborated with Lee, a renowned horror director responsible for “Barbarian” and this weekend’s “Companion”, on the critically acclaimed thriller “Strange Darling” under the Spooky label.

Spooky was responsible for creating “Late Night with the Devil,” the chilling supernatural horror film from last year, where David Dastmalchian played a talk-show host from the ’70s who perhaps regretted his questionable bargain.

Previously, Snyder’s self-owned comic book series have attracted attention from Hollywood. One of the projects being transformed is “Night of the Ghoul,” which is in development at 20th Century Studios with Rob Savage (known for “The Boogeyman”) set to direct it.
